I have a commercial oven and it has 2 control panels you use knobs to interact with. They were worn out and rarely working. I thought I'd replace the control panels but that would be as expensive as replacing the oven itself. I pulled the panels out and took them apart and found encoders that looked almost identical to these. I desoldered the old ones and soldered these in and boom everything works like new. A new oven would have costed over 30k! If these last as long as the encoders they replaced the oven should be good for another decade of daily use.

Well I’ve been using these batteries for my Arlo cameras and so far so good.Accept for one battery that I had in the plastic case that the batteries came in. It was time to change out my camera batteries and when I opened the case I could smell something burnt! Well it was one of the batteries had a burn near the top of the positive post. It looks like the protection circuitry had failed. Interesting thing is that I had not put this battery in service yet. I’m just glad it did not cause a fire in my house. I now think I’m gonna find a metal box to store the plastic battery holder in just in case and as an added protection. Here are a few pictures.

Was able to take apart and remove detent easily. Now, they turn smoothly like I wanted.

Although not quite 'breadboard friendly' - and they're by no means advertised as such - they will actually sit on a breadboard if you persist. Undebounced, you might get about three or four interrupts per detent/catch (if that's the way you're rolling - which is probably the thing to do) from its LEFT(GROUND)RIGHT pin triple. So you could probably manage without software debouncing if your use-case is simply large swings in either direction. If you're interested in precision then of course you'll probably want to debounce. The built-in pushbutton is also useful and the PUSH(GROUND) pin pair on the other side can be used for that (non-interrupt - just a straight pollable high/low on a digital line).
