I use a potentiometer nto set brightness and color values of LEDs and the analogRead doesn't return a 0-1023 range. The vgalues only go up to 732 and goes down to 400. I never tried a carbon film one before and thought it would be smoother wiuth less chatter.. I don't have good luck with Uxcell brand components.

This carbon film potentiometer is manufactured with a long control shaft. This is useful for mounting on control panels where a front panel escutcheon is used. Some of these potentiometers are quite smooth while some are not. I have opted to hand-pick them prior to permanent installation. I can not speak to the reliability of these potentiometers, or how long their life-cycle might be. Keep in mind that they are the old fashioned carbon-type. It is best not to pass DC through the wiper of any potentiometer. They should be used with AC coupling to control AC amplitude. If DC is allowed to pass through wiper of potentiometers of this type in audio applications, they could become noisy, or scratchy sounding. Like anything else, they have to be applied correctly.
