Great for building the typical 555 type switching power supply to generate 170 VDC for Nixie tubes.I built two of those power supplies using this toroid and was able to generate voltages to nearly 300 volts from an ordinary 9 VDC wall wart power supply.You can find a schematic for the power supply by just searching for "Nixie Power Supply."One recommendation is to not use the typical 1K, 10K .0022 mfd timing components specified in the circuit but use 2.2K, 22K .001 mfd instead. These are closer to mid-range specs for the 555 chip and generate the same frequency and waveform.The circuit is very stable and will power the usual Russian Nixie tubes with no problems.
