I liked the core tone of this mouthpiece but for my needs It wasn't loud enough or fat enough on high notes. but it would be almost perfect for someone in Concert band who wants to blend in. Ksaxman. com

A35 V5..Was looking for something that would blend in with a concert band, but had enough power and volume to speak out in a solo or in a full piece jazz band. Just doesn't do it for me, perhaps just doesn't work well with my set up...vintage selmer mk VI. Must be too large of a chamber for me, requiring too much air to push through it...although I can probably get some good low volume tones. If buying as a "step up" I would first try a a smaller tip opening or a smaller chamber piece.. It all depends on your lung capacity and "chops". But, as all Vandoren pieces, it is well made. Maybe it will work for you.

Our 14 year old plays in the HS jazz ensemble. Her private lesson teacher recommended a mouthpiece upgrade to meet the demands of the new music. Our student reports this mouthpiece makes her instrument more responsive, with much fuller, rounder tone than the factory piece. She struggled with a difficult run of 16th notes on the original mouthpiece, but mastered the same run on the Vandoren. As the parent, I'm no musician, but I can hear the difference both in tone and articulation. It's a winner! I would advise you check with lesson and school teachers before investing. But, if indicated, you will hear the difference, and will not be disappointed.
