Sliding dock ladders

This ladderust have a wall or backing behind it. Without support behind the ladder it flexed a lot. I felt it was unsafe. It cannot be used as seen in the photos.It was also missing a piece when we received the item.

I bought this ladder for a fresh water dock ladder. I wanted a ladder that would adjust in length so the bottom of the ladder would contact the lake bottom to make it stable which is not a standard ladder length. I bought a “used” condition ladder. The ladder arrived very well packaged and seemed to be new and unused. I expect whoever bought it before was overwhelmed by the amount of parts and assembly requirements. The ladder took a couple of hours to assemble but I was not in a rush. The extruded steps makes it difficult to reach the nuts underneath when assembling. All the hardware is stainless but all the nuts should have been locknuts or at least have lock washers; none were. The finish of the entire aluminum ladder was rough, almost like it had been sandblasted. It’s not a typical mill finish for aluminum. The welds all seemed even and solid. The bracket that holds the two sections together was the worst part of the ladder. One of the two was slightly tighter than the other and when assembled, the brackets would pivot and cause the ladder to bind, a very bad design. The brackets needed two through bolts to prevent this. When fully assembled it’s almost impossible to adjust the ladder without a significant struggle. For my purpose, once installed I won’t have to adjust again so it’s acceptable. I consider the ladder an “okay” buy for the used price.
