I suppose there has to be a trade-off between weight and security for bike locks. I keep one of those curled-up cables that have a built-in combination lock in the bike bag mounted behind my seat. I know that anyone with a bolt cutter could slice right through the cable, but it doesn't weigh much more than my water bottle and it seems to offer enough protection for everyday rides. But if I was traveling long distances, parking in sketchy neighborhoods or keeping my bike outdoors overnight, this is the lock I would want. I don't know how anybody could cut through the heavy steel of this U bar. Maybe with a concrete saw?The combination lock on the Via Velo was easy to program and reset. Once the correct digits are entered, the curved end of the bar pops right out. The five-foot shielded steel cable provides an extra layer of protection and it's long enough to loop around a utility pole. The only drawback is its weight - about 2 1/2 pounds - and size. If this is the right lock for you, plan on having a bag on your front or rear rack.

If a thief has the will, there is always a way. This should buy you some time and act as a deterrent. It definitely is an upgrade from the cable locks, although this comes also with it for extra protection. I was looking for a lesser expensive U lock for a onewheel. This fit the XR and bike racks around the area. There's enough room for both the onewheel and bike rack, if you finagle through between the tire and rail. You can also attach the cable for extra time. The cover is made of plastic. Not sure if it can last through constant weather exposure. There's also a noticeable gap in the insertion of the U lock. It's easy to change the combination with the provided instructions.

On arrival, the lock is nice and bulky and very easy to use. Setting the lock to a code you want is very simple, simply unlock it, twist the face plate and input the new code before twisting it back. The locking mechanism itself is very sturdy so any thief would find it very hard to force it, in essence, short of an angle grinder I doubt any opportunistic thief would get through it.That said, it isn't a 'diamond' rated sold secure lock so if a professional thief wants your bike they will be able to get it but that's the same with most lock unfortunately. As with all bike locks, it's more about where you choose to lock your bike up and how you lock it up that is key... Put it next to a bike with a much poorer lock or a biker that is much more expensive than yours and chances are this lock will keep it as safe as possible! For the price, this is a fantastic lock

Size: Ebikes are pretty chunky but this does fit around the tire and through part of the frame, not a lot of extra room. The crossbar is rather large, it does not fit in my smaller trunk bagSecurity: The shackle is 13mm. So it’s on the smaller size of what is recommended but still considered a good solid thickness. If you want thicker, it could cost you 3-4x the price.Lock: It’s very easy to set your combo. There’s a window on the back so if you put the lock on upside down, you can still see the numbers. The numbers are rather deep set into the lock so they aren’t the easiest to turn, especially the end (first/last). It takes a little getting used to.Cable: The cable that comes with it is longer than most, 5’Overall I think it’s a solid lock and a great value.

This is a great combination lock that provides the security of a solid U-Lock, with an extender cable that can lock removable items like a wheel, a seat and a helmet; all using a single combination. No longer having to carry extra locks to secure additional items, making this a handy comprehensive bike lock solution.I have an older U-Lock that uses a key, but it only worked if I remembered to bring the key with me, so having a combination lock removes the need to carry keys. The extender cable is solid yet versatile, letting you either insert both ends in the U-Lock, or looping the cable inside one of the ends and only having one of the ends reach the U-Lock. This allows for greater flexibility with locking options, making this an ideal bike locking solution.

This is a great lock to use at home or if you have a pannier. As it has no frame mount it may be impractical as a travel lock for some riders. The lock is very heavy and the look of it is enough to put any casual thief off any attempt to cut through the bar. Likewise, the cable looks like it would be a challenge. Most deterents are all about the visuals and this lock has that for sure - enough to make a potential thief move on to any easier target.I like the fact the lock is a combination lock so I don't have to worry about losing the key.The only negative is that this does not have the certication required by bike insurance companies but as a secondary lock or, if lack of certification is not an issue for you. this looks to be a good option. No stars dropped due to the lack of certification because a) it is not claimed to be insurance certified and b) the price reflects the lack of certification.

The u-lock seems to be strong and secure, and it's large enough to provide options on how to fasten it to the bike or scooter. It's somewhat difficult to rotate the numbers and push the slider to lock and unlock. Changing the combination is a simple process. The included cable is also thick but appears to be a common steel cable that a well-equipped thief could cut pretty quickly. Most of the protection will come from the u-lock. The lock and cable together add a few pounds to the ride.

Perfect and exactly as described. Truly is heavy duty, it has some weight to it and locks up tight. It comes with instructions which isn’t always the case with Amazon products. Instructions were clear and easy to follow to reset the combination. It came with a secure cable.Easy to use and can change the combination anytime by following the directions.

This U-lock is a solid mix of convenience and decent security, as long as you're realistic about what you're getting. The 13mm shackle and overall build quality make it feel like a light to medium-duty lock, and it definitely looks the part—big enough to deter casual theft, but not big enough to look daunting or be a pain to carry around. It’s made from 20CrMnTi steel, which is standard for mid-range locks and does offer decent resistance against cutters or leverage attacks. Not top-tier, but it’s not flimsy either. However, the real highlight here is the combo lock system. It’s quick, easy to use, and nice not having to worry about a key, or losing one - great option for a kid. Resetting the combo is also straightforward. That said, the combination housing looks like the weakest part of the whole setup. I’d guess it wouldn’t take much effort to force it open if someone really wanted to. Like most combination systems, it's more about defeating opportunist thieves, not serious attackers. It’s also nice that they included 5ft cable, which gives you more flexibility when locking up to awkward racks or looping through wheels and frames. This also makes it easier for children to use. Again, it’s not going to stop a thief with tools, but it’s a useful deterrent for the quick grab-and-go type of theft. Definitely gives you more options, especially if you're locking up in busier urban spots, and want to cover off removable wheels, etc..There’s no carrying bracket or case, so you’ll need to throw it in a bag or strap it to your frame somehow. Not a dealbreaker, but inconvenient and will require you to diy some type of mounting hardware or throw it in your pakc. Also, while it’s weather-resistant and the rubber coating does a good job protecting your frame, I haven’t had it long enough to see how it deals with the weather over the long run. When considering a lock, it’s important to keep in mind that grinder attacks are basically unavoidable and unstoppable - it’s just a mater of time and number of discs. Even high-end U-locks, including ones with specialized materials, can be taken out with a grinder in a couple of minutes. So it’s more about how much effort it takes and whether your lock is enough to make someone move on to an easier target. This one won’t hold up to a determined thief for long, but that’s true for most locks unless you're spending a lot more, and that will only buy you a couple more minutes. If you're looking for something you can use daily without the hassle of keys and don’t need top-tier protection, this is a pretty good option. It's a solid value, especially for lighter or mid-risk environments. Just don’t expect it to stand up to serious attacks—this is more about convenience and basic theft deterrence than bulletproof security. If you’re looking to thwart serious attacks you’ll have to invest a lot more, and have layers of security and alarms.

I do like Via Velo bike locks. They are heavy duty. This is my first with the combination insteasd of keys. I was thinking it would be easier than keys. Heavy duty and includes cable. Easily wraps around tire frame and bike rack. Easy to set up combo and fits in my rear bag. Its a secure as a bike lock can be. Heavier weight and functions as needed. First lock i have had with plastic around the lock. No problems and seems to be weather resistant.

This lock feels sturdy and well-made. It’s a bit on the heavier side, but that actually makes it feel more secure. The size is just right for locking both the frame and a tire without having to struggle with positioning. The combination dials turn smoothly and stop cleanly on each digit, which makes setting the code quick and frustration-free.One thing I really appreciate is that you don’t have to re-enter the code when putting the lock back on. It just clicks shut, which is especially helpful when you’re in a hurry. I haven’t used the included steel cable yet, but it looks solid and could be useful for extra security if needed.Overall, while it’s not the lightest lock to carry, it gives a strong sense of reliability. It feels like something built with real use in mind, and for that purpose, it does the job well.

Easily set your own combo, and reset it when needed. The number-lock function was easy to use, rolling with reasonable ease. Although almost all security locks/cables/chains can eventually be defeated if you have a determined thief, this one will likely provide enough deterrence that a thief will look elsewhere for easier prey. The hardened steel shackle bar is large enough to fit nicely around the larger frame/tire on our E-bike. The additional cable, itself moderately thick steel, will easily wrap around a post and additional wraps through both of your e-bike wheels. Both lock and cable fit nicely into a medium sized carry-bag attached to your bike.
