I have this antenna hood mounted on my 2002 Suburban. With a 3 foot Firestick and 4 foot fiberglass antennas, I could not acieve SWR readings less than 3. Chasing wire routing, ground plane adjustments, new radio, nothing helped. Bolted this HQ-27 up and volia, I was able to get SWR readings almost to 1! This antenna works great for my application. "CQ-DX" and "breaker-breaker 1-9" baby.

I have has antenna on my truck for over a year. I have compared it to the leading other brands. Performance wise it does as well as any 4' fiberglass antenna I have tried in comparison. I have a flat SWR with a 1:0 to 1 across all 40 channels. This antenna can handle impacts better than a fiberglass antenna that is not mounted to a spring. The antenna is not as visible as a fiberglass antenna is in comparison. Good job Hustler!

Was shorted out in the coil when it arrived. High SWR that wouldn’t change and antenna light was coming on. Very flimsy made,

Antenna would not tune. Installed it on the same mount in the same location as my 4ft Firestik, my 5ft Firestik and my 102" whip have been installed. All of which tune down to 1.5:1 or lower (102" is 1.1:1). The antenna would not tune below 3 on any channel. To be fair to the antenna I threw it on a Tram mag mount and tossed it on the roof of my F-350 to see if it was the location of my permanent mount that it didn't like. Same result. Tried using the mag mount in the bed... same result. Put the mag mount on my wife's car and used a portable cb that I have. Same result. At that point I decided to start trimming the whip to see if I could at least get the SWR down into the 2's so I put it back on the F-350 and started trimming the whip. No change. Can't even send it back because the whip is cut. Antenna is garbage. Save your money! It's not a brand issue either because my 102" is a Hustler. Guess that explains why they stopped using the HQ in the 70's... cheap, poorly made junk!
