If, like me, you are just starting a sovt regimen, it might be better to begin with a wider bore straw—I just used a 3/8 plastic drinking straw—for a few weeks before advancing to a coffee-stirrer-sized tube such as this one. It does have three air-release holes, but I found it still to have too much resistance and—by virtue of its metallic rigidity—not have enough resonance vibration to build confidence that I was performing the exercises correctly. However, after graduating to this device, I’ve found that it works quite well.Prior to beginning sovt, I was have some major voice and chord tension issues. I’m happy to say that in just a short time the rasping and tightness have abated significantly. This device is a bit pricey for such a simple thing, but it is precisely tooled out of brass and comes with a nice storage/travel pouch.

I had no idea what to do with these. They are nicely made and durable seeming and they come with a nice pouch, but I didn't know if I was supposed to be trying to suck fluid out of these through the different holes or if there was some way to play them as an instrument or what. I don't understand why anyone would make a product, and put all that time and effort into engineering the thing, and not spend $100 for someone to describe it and illustrate it and/or demonstrate it. I have no idea if these function well or poorly. I started to leave a lower review when I saw they had some very basic instructions in one of the advertising pictures. I han't looked through all of those when I decided to purchase these, so I missed that. Even those directions are extremely minimal, and it's hard to tell if I'm getting it right, but it does seem to assist a little with breath support. Normally I would give The lowest reading possible in any 0.review that didn't include instructions. But I will give these two and a half, rounded up to three.

I’ve used a few different types of singing straws to train my voice. They are good tools! This one is rather thin, offering more obstruction than most of the others I use. The straw comes in a nice, compact vinyl purse, with a metal cleaning brush. There was no instruction or other literature included - it arrived in appropriate shipping materials, packaged in a simple cellophane bag. I’m curious about several small holes drilled in the shaft of this straw - they slightly change the resistence the straw affords, so I can vary the strength of my practice sessions. The straw and brush in the bag are very small and light - I can slip it easily into a trouser pocket and forget its there. That makes it pretty practical for onsite work and showtime warmups. I look forward to working with it more extensively so I can do a more elaborate comparison to other similar products. My initial impressions are positive!

I will give this device a try, but without a little more instruction - not sure I am doing it right. I know I need to work on my breathing control when I sing, and because of my asthma I sometimes get short of breath and get behind on my breathing. Hoping that this device will help with my endurance. only time will tell.

Sheer luxury. Seriously, you can accomplish the same goals using a soda straw. The kit comes without any instructions. The version I ordered includes three brass straws, a cleaner brush, a bamboo holder and a canvas bag. The canvas bag is rather redundant to the bamboo holder. The kit also includes a small 2" square of microfiber cloth. The straws are different widths and lengths. But to be honest, the larger one is enough for this kind of training. All the extras are luxury!

These are proper sized straws for vocal training. It sounds like a strange technique but it really works. I'm glad to have dedicated straws vs borrowing ones from my coffee cups. This will take your training to the next level.
