This allows the computer to precisely control idle speed when varying loads are placed on the engine. Symptoms of failure include engine stalling, surging, poor idle conditions, and or a check engine light. Check for proper operation with each tune-up. Replace when trouble codes indicate failure. Ready for a long one? 2 yrs ago my 1997 GMC Jimmy passed smog (in CA) with flying colors. Literally 2 blocks away on my way home the check engine light comes on. In CA this is an instant fail on a smog test no matter what the actual test results are. So I drive back to the place (friendly people) and say hey If I told you my check engine light came on would it affect the test I just had, they said no you're already in the system as a pass. So I asked them if they would do a quick code read and see what the problem was. They did for free and told me it said idle air control valve. Within a day or two the light went out and I forgot about it. Fast forward 2 years, I don't drive it very often but it was up for smog this month so I took it out for a long drive to get it warmed up and get the ECM codes up to date. On the way home from this warm up the check engine light comes back on Damn!! . Hadn't seen it for 2 yrs, but I did remember what the diagnostic said. I found one of these in Amazon's used list at $10.50, free shipping, took a week to get it as it was all the way on the east coast. Anyhow had it installed 20 minutes after I got it and BAM, check engine light OFF. Gonna drive it around tomorrow and get that smog done. The little Jimmy is my beater now but it'll be good to get a couple more years out of it. $10 fix, I'm happy

This seems to work ok. Only issue so far is my idle is staying higher when I let off the gas. Hopefully this will resolve, but I may just put my old one back in for now and buy an ac Delco.

Didn’t fit my 96 k1500. I don’t know if it’s poorly made or they sent me the wrong one but the screws it came with were too large and the holes too far apart. Useless and once removed from the bag unreturnable. Very disappointed. If you need this part save the headache and just spend the money on the AcDelco part.
