I got these walkie talkies for my kids for Christmas after they started begging me for a toy set of 2 that they saw at a store. My primary reason for picking this set was the quantity. Four walkie talkies = fewer arguments about whose turn it is. I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and features of this set. It is way more than an entertaining kids' toy (though they certainly find it entertaining). The first thing that struck me is the batteries. The set comes with 12 rechargeable AA batteries (each handset takes 3). USB cords are included, so you don't have to remove the batteries to recharge them. Even better, the cords are Y-shaped, so you can charge 2 at a time per USB outlet. For times that a charging location isn't readily available or you don't have time to wait for the batteries to recharge, the batteries can easily be swapped out with other AA batteries (just remember NOT to plug the handsets in when non-rechargeable batteries are installed). The sound quality is good, and the volume buttons are great. We haven't tested their range, but they work well on separate floors. They have an impressive number of channels that you can choose from, including the ability to listen to the weather station. Also, the handsets have headset jacks (which is all I can tell you, since we have not tried using them). You can lock the channel & volume button to prevent accidental changes. It is a nice feature but it won't take the kids long to figure out how to unlock it to make intentional changes. We do find it necessary to supervise the kids walkie talkie use for 3 reasons:1) to avoid hearing damage from turning the volume up to high right next to their ears.2) an increase of bedtime fears about severe weather in certain children after listening to the weather channel too close to bedtime.3) the potential to listen and/or interact with strangers if they stumble across a channel being used by someone else.All-in-all, I am very satisfied with my order. The kids have found all sorts of creative ways to use the walkie talkies (like listening to music that is playing in a different part of the house). One last thing. If you should happen to install the batteries before wrapping it as a present, make sure the power buttons don't get pressed by mistake... especially if you plan to put the presents under the tree early. The kids heard a low battery alert coming from the gifts. I had to unwrap the present to turn the offending handset off & charge it. There is a reason they ship them without the batteries installed!
