Context -My 6 year old son and I have been messing around with "pretend" paper drawing walkie-talkies, so I figured I mind as well grab some real ones for fun. I had also recently purchased some grown-up walkie-talkies for camping, hiking, etc. so grabbing another set specifically for the kids will allow each adult and child to have a walkie-talkie on hand.Experience -Unboxing was simple but the two walkie-talkies arrived safe and secure. They come wrapped in a plastic bag with a easy to break seal. You need to remove the waist-clip in order to access the batteries, but once the batteries are plopped in and a channel selected, they worked perfect! The sound quality between the two are surprisingly good! When on the same channel, my grown-up walkie-talkie set as well as this FOREDOM set are able to listen and communicate with one another which is awesome! When holding them in your hand, they do definitely feel towards the lighter side, which can be a good thing for kids, but because they're light they do feel cheap. There's some rubber on all the pushable buttons for extra grip, but it would have been nice if they had these on the bottom and side of the unit too to offer extra grip and protection (which my adult units has), but I do suppose that's more of a premium feature. When you press a button there is a small LED green light that activates that lets you see what's going on the screen. I imagine that'd be quite useful when operating these in the dark. There are extra settings you can access through the menu and the booklet offers a guide but I haven't looked into those options yet.Pros -- Surprisingly good sound quality.- lightweight build- offers plenty of channel and extra setting options in the menuCons -- because of lightweight, feels somewhat cheap- could use some extra protection, but at this price point I suppose I can't complain- I don't think these are rated IP-anything so they might be extra-sensitive to splashes of water and dust accumulation, so be extra careful when handling themOther thoughts -I'll mostly use these indoors to mess around with the kids and play military games and whatnot, but when we do take them outside for camping weekends I might actually trade these with the kids and the kids takes the grown-up walkie-talkies since those offers much better rated protection as I trust myself more to keep these FOREDOM units from getting wet and not dropping them. I haven't had the chance to test the range, but I don't think my family and I will ever challenge the listed range anyway so I'm not too concerned about that. I also added high-capacity triple-A batteries so I'm hopeful the battery life on these will last just a tad bit longer.Overview -I'm super happy about this set and am glad each member of the family will have a unit on hand when we go adventuring. The sound quality is great with a mid-quality build and that's something I can live with at this price.

These walkie talkies are great! I was quite skeptical about the quality due to the low price, but these things perform. I, as an adult use them for my job, which is driving cars between dealerships. Sometimes the trips are about 100 miles long, and it's me i n one car and a co-worker in another car, on the highway. If one of us needs to hit a rest stop, or we need gasoline, we can easily radio the other of our needs. If one of us is using navigation and the other isn't, we can radio the other and tell of upcoming speed traps that the app alerts us to. Yes, we could use our cell phones to do the same, but it's much much easier to just push a button down and talk as opposed to having to get the phone to dial the other. Also, if we are in a no-signal area, the phones don't work, but these walkie talkies will.As to range, on the highway I've seen these work with absolutely no issue in sound or being able to reach the other at up to about 1/4 mile. I haven't tried them any further though, so I cannot comment beyond that 1/4 mile range. The sound quality is quite good! I find it crisp and clear, with no noise nor static. As to battery life, In most of my trips which span about 4 hours each, the battery life indicator stays reading at full, as if I just turned them on with fresh batteries. That's with some cheap Harbor Freight AAA's. I tried the radios with some 1.5V lithium-ion batteries, and the results were the same, with the advantage that Lithium-ions will never leak, and they give you a steady voltage until they are depleted. It's a win-win.Controls are easy to operate, although you will need the owner's manual at first to teach you about all the different options available on these radios.I really cannot find anything to find fault with so I rate these with 5 stars.

Super easy to set up. Fun to use. You can hear the other person very clearly. However they drain batteries very quickly.
