Why Need to Replace Auto Trans Shift Cable?

I installed this on a 99 Chevy Silverado due to the handle being broken off the mount. In hindsight it would probably be best to just use the handle assembly instead of removing the entire cable. Maybe save cable replacement for a broken cable end. Anyway, for the sake of installing and review, I did install the entire cable. The grommet on this cable is too large to make a good fit, I think it's mostly just wedged in place. So, I wish that were better. My pictures show the way this one looks vs the cable I removed. Otherwise it looks fine and is functional.

Over all this hood release cable is well made and seems like it will hold up just as the factory did. My only complaint (other than it's a little bit of a pain to install) is that there is not marking on the handle indicating it's a hood release like the factory one had. It's not a deal breaker, but why wouldn't they have done that? If you need one, this one will do!
