My yard is basically rock and clay. This little tool does wonders and far easier then the pic axe. Hopefully it will tolerate my demands.

This handpick is very close to what I wanted, it is light, sturdy and does the job. The only way it could be better is if the blade head was just a bit wider, like the handpick I replaced. It does arrive in two parts. It was easy to slip the head onto the handle. I have not had any issue with the head falling back onto my hand as another review suggested. I would buy this again.

Living in the RTP area of NC for about 15 years, we deal with some pretty hard soil. How I managed to get any gardening at all done without this tool in this region is beyond me. Thick red clay not a problem. Rocks are easily cast aside. Heavy roots, not a problem. The trick is making sure you get the head on the handle securely before you start using it. That means first pushing the head into place as snugly as you can onto the handle. Then you bang the bottom handle down a concrete surface and let the g's push the head into place a bit more; you can put tape or foil on the bottom to keep it from getting scratched. Finally you take a rubber mallet and hit the head on the left and then right of it's collar about the handle to ensure it's not going anywhere. Do that, and you won't have any of the slippage problems some people have mentioned. As for the using tool itself, the biggest difficulty now is trying to share just one between my wife and myself and she's also realized that we should have gotten this much sooner.

The quality is fine, sturdy handle, but it's very light. I bought it because it was all I could find to replace a little heavier one (that I somehow lost) and it isn't up to the same kind of work. The name of the item does say "Weeding" so I guess it's going to be OK if that's how you intend to use it.

I virtually never go out on a weeding patrol without this little mattock in my hand. The weight of the head (453 g) enables a user to effortlessly uproot the most well-anchored weeds. Let gravity do the work. After purchasing one for myself, I got 3 more for family members. It is a great tool for lawn sprinkler maintenance as well, digging up broken sprinkler heads. As far as setting the head on the shaft; grasp the end of the handle between thumb and forefinger. Let it it fall onto an unyielding surface, (drive way or sidewalk), such that it strikes the ground on the end of the handle that is protruding from the head. Do this a few times at about 3 ft and it is good to go.

My son did some volunteering in the wetlands told me that they do not use shovels, instead, they use handpicks. He suggested I get one. We have super hard clay soil so I was doubtful this tool would work but I trusted my son's judgment and bought one. This is hands down my all-time favorite garden tool! I bought a second one since I often garden with other family members and want to make sure nobody takes my new toy, oops...I mean tool. The quality of this particular tool seem really good. We have used them for over a month, almost daily and they are holding up great. Excellent tool for the price, or for any price for that matter. You will have no regrets.

Nicely weighted and strong to get through my yard of rocks carefully enough to not damage sprinkler lines and low voltage wires underground. Lightweight for my 10 year old to dig and "play" Minecraft and mining in the yard as well. I bought it for him, but very useful for me so i need to ask him to borrow it whenever I need to use it.
