They are WAY pricey. I've used these or the Archer-branded equivalent for thirty years, and ~$7.00 for a single tip is about double what they should be. The soldering irons and heating elements for this style of tip are also very expensive, but they will last a LONG time, while the tips deteriorate fairly quickly with heavy use. Still, they're a good all-around choice, and still MY choice.

I've been doing component level soldering since 1975. I was US Army trained in precision soldering. I've tried just about every kind of soldering/desoldering station on the market.As a field engineer, I have to say that the most useful, dependable, repeatable, and portable soldering system is the Weller 5037S 45W element, paired with the 7400 Grounded Handle and a PL113 chisel tip. I also have a box I made with a ground lift and parallel diode which changes the 45W element into a 23W at the flip of a switch. I can do everything from 100 pin flat pack microchips to heavy ground soldering with it, and it folds up into a package I can carry in one hand.
