I purchased these Weller ST7 ST Series Conical Solder Tips after giving several different generic tips a try, none of which performed well at all. These Weller ST7 tips really do make a HUGE difference. They maintain temperature consistently, and do not "burn out". The cheaper replacements were shorter (thus contributing to their inconsistent temperature performance) and didn't last long at all. There is an old saying, "We're too poor to afford cheap." meaning if you purchase "cheap" you wind up buying again and again, probably paying more in the long run than you would have if you purchased well. Very apt adage for these tips!

I didn't realize how nice a new soldering iron tip is until I popped one of these in my iron. What a difference! Keep a few on hand and replace them often! Make your life easy!

**WARNING** These tips will NOT work well on your Weller WLC-100! **WARNING**Despite the fact that the product description says, and I quote:"ST Series Tips: Will fit the SP40L / SP40N series irons as well as the WP25, WP30, WP35, WLC100 series tools"Let me be transparent: I am an utter beginner at soldering. A complete and absolute novice. With that said, I did my research and bought the Weller WLC-100 as it is heralded as "the best entry-level soldering station on the market." Cool. Now, all of the reviews and research said that the ST3 wedge tip that it came with was somewhat cumbersome and overall undesirable, and that you should probably switch to a conical tip as soon as possible. "Hear you loud and clear!" I shouted to the internet. Thus, I ordered this pair of ST7s.Once the products had arrived, I didn't bother using the ST3 tip at all- I slid a flathead screwdriver into the shaft of my soldering station, got that ST3 chump out of there, and installed my brand-new ST7 tip, ready to get going.Problem was, things didn't go so well- my solder wouldn't melt, and then it would, and then it wouldn't. I was trying to practice some desoldering and that didn't work either. But again, since I am a novice, I thought, "Ah- I guess there is a steeper learning curve than I thought!" and I kept trying to get things to work. No dice.It then became clear that certain parts of the shaft were more than hot enough to melt the solder, just not the tip itself. "Odd..." I mused. Furthermore, the tip was getting progressively blacker (despite my best attempts at tinning it throughout!). Curious, I turned off the station, let it cool, and swapped out the ST7 tip for the ST3 that came with the unit.Absolutely everything began working perfectly.I will say again that I am a beginner, but my solder started melting exactly when and where I wanted it to, I wasn't getting any cold solders, and even desoldering was a breeze. Additionally, the tip stayed shiny and silver and held my tinning extremely well.I was now prepared to blame the ST7 tip for my troubles, but wanted to be sure first. I again turned off the unit, let it cool, and swapped the ST3 out for the second, non-used ST7 conical tip. This time, rather than turning my station to the max to get it to pre-heat faster, I merely put it on the correct setting for soldering (~3.75). Then, I held my solder to the tip as it was heating to make sure that I would be tinning the tip the absolute instant it became possible. Sure enough, the tip did take the solder, and I once again began to try and use it. It was definitely better this time, but still nowhere close to the ST3 wedge tip that came with the unit. Also, I kept retinning and retinning and retinning the tip, but the rest of the tip (that is to say, everything other than the tip of the tip) continued to get blacker and blacker and blacker... Despite my *constant* retinning, oxidation slowly started to creep onto my tip. Now convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was these ST7 tips, I turned off my unit and came here to write this review. For the last time, take everything I am saying with a grain of salt given my dearth of experience, but even I as a complete rookie was able to effortlessly do simple soldering with the ST3 tip and could not do anything to make either of these ST7 tips work. I will be returning them with the hope I can find an appropriate conical tip for the Weller WLC-100 one day.Couple of final thoughts: despite the ST3 and the ST7 both being of the ST-series (duh), the ST3 is solid while the ST7 is hollow/looks like it could screw into something. I'm no physicist, but that surely has to affect how heat gets into these tips. Additionally, this whole situation is particularly head-scratching because the instruction manual for the Weller WLC-100 itself names the ST7 as an appropriate replacement tip (along with all of the other ST tips they offer, again duh). I don't know what the deal is here, but if you're like me and bought a WLC-100 to get into soldering, have fun with the ST3 wedge tip that comes with it and find a different conical replacement tip for your unit!

Awesome tips for small work (PCB/Led Strips). Let heat and pre coat with a dab of solder then your ready to heat wires. A+
