1. Prepare Some Kindling ( withered grass, leaves, paper, ect)
2. Slowly scape some magnesium from the lighter rod onto the kindling.
3. Quickly scape the lighter rod to create a spark ontot the kindling

live this starter. the whole this is magnesium so it will last for years. other strikers only have a small strip embedded, but this is the whole thing.

It’s really jumbo sized! Unlike the tiny ones that come in the “survival” kits. First time using a ferro rod and I could easily throw a ton of sparks from it. Read quite a few posts about how hard it is for beginners, but this was really easy. Just scratch off the paint and throw the sparks! Don’t fret if it doesn’t spark, bits of magnesium have flaked off and those will catch easily when the sparks touch them anyways, so it’s not a wasted effort!

I have several ferro rods but I liked that this came with a striker. I had read other reviews saying that the wooden handle isn't glued on very well so the first thing that I did was to pull it off and glue it back on with Gorilla Glue permanently. I was really pleased with the striker that comes with it. The striker has the proper burr on the backside that you want you throw good sparks and this one throws an awesome shower of sparks. To me it was well worth the purchase to get the striker that comes with the ferro rod.

Love the huge rod, it’ll last along time. Handle did pop right off easily. Just lightly glued on. Drilled 1/2” hole a little deeper and re-glued with gorilla glue. Works great now. Scraper is a little on the small side, but works. Quick delivery and no problems. Just another item made in China

And the jury is still out on the rod.Wood handle fell off before I got the paint scraped off the rod, on both of the ones I bought.

The wood handle is quality hardwood, a nice touch. It’s a bit heavy for the trail but works fantastic and should last many years. The striker is a little thin and may bend with use, but is perfectly functional. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 9, it’s almost perfect for what it is. It throws huge sparks and lots of them. And now that I’ve used it, I can never go back to using smaller ferro rods.

Very large and very easy to strike. Makes lot of sparks. Very easy to make a fire with. Buy more than one they are totally worth it. I have about 5 or 6 of these the only problem I had was one of the Rods started to wobble. I pulled the Rod out of the wood and put a little super glue and it was fixed. Very good fire steels.

These look like they’re going to be very nice for what I need them for. I am putting them in my prepping bags and I’m sure they’re going be very handy should I need them for an emergency. I like the fact that they have a wooden handle and it’s very sturdy and easy to hold. The delivery was quick and I am pleased with my purchased. I purchased two. One for my son and one for myself.

Giant thick ferro rod. Throws huge sparks. Lights tinder with 1-3 strikes EVERY time. Way better than typical small rods. Handle is sturdy and easy to hold. Striker tool works very well. I figured I’d use my knife more often than not but the striker actually works better. I did swap out the cord that holds the striker to the handle, with a longer piece of 550 cord. Gives a little more length and room to work the striker while attached to the ferro rod. Would definitely recommend to others or buy again.

Excellent fire steel for a great price. Throws heavy sparks. I bought a 5 pack of the little 3/16 by 3" or whatever size they are ages ago and have been using those. So glad I finally went for something bigger, and this material is much nicer than I'm used to as well. Nice and soft and did I mention it throws a lot of massive sparks? Very happy with it. It's obviously more bulky than the small ones but it's totally worth it.Don't forget to always carry your firesteel on your person preferably secured to a belt loop or something and not in a pack or anywhere else that it might not be there when you need it most! Also I find knives works much better than the strikers these things come with. Take a file to the spine of your knife and it'll work very well.
