Locknuts were really hard to get off, but I'm a newb and I don't have a socket wrench. I expect this will be needed if you don't want to spend an hour unscrewing them to detach the plate from the box. I didn't even realize they did come off for quite awhile until I read the pictures on the Amazon page.Despite the locknut confusion/difficulty, I'm happy to have such a secure outlet box. I installed a ceiling fan immediately after finishing the bracket, and it all is working splendidly.

This was a breeze to install and exactly what I needed! It had the bolts for the attachments too, which you don't always get. One downfall was that I struggled to align it properly, but that's on me.

This is very heavy duty and I was able to hang a fan off of this box without an issue. I only had one rafter to work with and this lag screwed securely into it. A bit hard to retrofit, but can definitely be done.

First things first, there is no such thing as an easy retrofit when dealing with old work. To those complaining about it not being easy, suck it up. This is a great solution, very sturdy and if you follow instructions you shouldn't have any wobble. I added additional lag bolts to secure the mounting bracket to the joist as the package only came with two, you can get these at your local hardware store for cheap. Note that the instuctions tell you not to use the box ears to Mount a ceiling fan, but rather the threaded posts on the top of the box. I suspect those complaining about wobble used the box ears. I purchased the used version as a "warehouse deal" and paid half of what it would normally cost and works great. If your joists are less than 16" on centers this is a great option, if you have the space, using a box with a brace may be an easier install (didn't say it was easy tho 😂).

I had a light fixture in the bedroom and the box was nailed directly to the truss. It was a plastic box so I was able to cut and break it out of the opening from in the room. I was able to get a pry bar to remove the two nails that held the original box in place. To install this new fan box you need to drive the supplied large screws (close to lag bolts) through the support into the truss. The screws are large enough that I wasn't comfortable installing them without drilling a pilot hole. But the screws have to go into the truss horizontally. There's no way to get a drill in there to drill a hole from in the room. I was able to get a Dremel tool through the hole, lay it down and then reach though the hole, grab the Dremel, turn it on and drill a pilot hole. After that it was no problem because the screws have a hex head so I could drive them in with a 1/4" ratchet. I wanted a different box that had screws that are driven in at an angle from below, but they didn't have any in stock so I bought this on instead. It arrived the next day and it's very solid. If I was willing to go into the attic it might have been easier to install, but working in the attic is no fun either. It's a good product once installed. For new construction it would be easy to install. But to replace an existing box without going into the attic is a little difficult. If the box I replaced had been metal I probably would have had to go into the attic to remove it.

quality is poor. I would not recommend especially the screws. They begin to slip as soon as you install them. Feels like they are going to fall out

The original junction box was made of plastic so the thread in the box wore out. My fan wobbled for years and eventually fell from the ceiling and was left hanging by the wiring. It was installed on a flimsy bootleg electrician made piece of bracket on the center support beam. I needed a new box that could be bolted onto the only support beam in the bedroom and this definitely did the job. Its metal, strong, sturdy, and supports the fan with no death wobble.

Easy to mount, even in tight spaces. I installed these in a retrofit application where there were ceiling boxes alongside the joists, but they were cheap plastic ones that weren't rated for ceiling fans. I didn't want to cut out any more drywall than had already been cut out for the original ceiling box, and I was able to get the bracket installed through the original hole with no additional trimming of the hole. Installing the screws was tedious, but doable with a socket wrench, and putting the box on the bracket was a piece of cake. I installed two of these and two ceiling fans in an afternoon with no trouble at all.
