I would first like to say thank you to Wheels Manufacturing for makingreplacement cones for the old Shimano STX hubs !I had to replace bearings and cone on a 1995 Bridgestone mountain bike andcould not get an original Shimano cone, so I'm glad Wheels Manufacturingoffers replacement cones! Although the specs they list on their websitematch the cone I received ( checked with a mic. ), there is one spec thatdoes not match the original cone. I don't know the term, but it is the areaon the cone that sits inside the cup ( where the bearings contact ).See first photo of cone.....have indicated that area with red arrow.That portion of the cone is to thick ( not curved as much as the original cone ).Although it does fit, and does function well, it causes the cone to not seat as farin the hub as the original cone, therefore causing the dust cover to not fullymate to the hub. See photo #2 shows original cone in place, and photo #3 isWheels Manufacturing cone in place. Notice the gap in the dust cover, indicatedwith red arrow.The cone works fine; but because of the size difference, it's causing a gap in thedust cover, which will allow more debris.
