I'm a display coordinator for Anthropologie and do freelance jobs on the side...I've worked with a lot of birch in the past. These are the best poles you could ask for! There is nothing you need to do to them. I used them straight out of the packaging, attached circular wood bases and used them for a custom chuppah. The were so perfectly cut that i didn't have to level anything when attaching them. they were also perfect in length i just measured down on each side to bolt the cross beam in and the cross beam was perfectly level! i'm only going to buy poles from here from now on.

I was shocked when I opened the huge package that contained the two birch poles. These are WAY better than I expected. Not sure how it is that these are seasoned and dried, but they arrived in perfect condition and are truly 3" - 4" in diameter. I'm trying to think of another project so I can order more.

I used these to build a wedding archway and hang origami cranes from it--just as my wife wanted. These tree trunks were quite straight, cut to equal lengths. The cuts at the top and bottom were flat cuts. The bark was still mostly intact, with a little bit of shedding. For each trunk, the diameter tapered slightly from bottom to top. The diameters of different trunks varied a bit: one out of 6 trunks was a bit thinner than the rest, but my archway design didn't require much precision so that was fine.

Poles were all on the small end of the circumference range, one pole didn't look at all like the rest.

Great looking birch. Shipped in a timely manner and is exactly as described.Do note that Wilson Evergreens has other listings for birch poles in a smaller diameter that ship 4 at a time. These Birch poles ship two at a time (because they are so big).
