Rather than a gaitor and hat, I thought I could use this when bicycle riding in the winter. I found the wind caused by the bike riding entered the sides. As it wasn't as snug over my ears as my hat and gaitor, my ears began feeling the cold. You lose much heat through your ears so this wasn't helpful. I wear sunglasses while riding, not only because of the sun, but to block the wind from my eyes. I found the turned up front at my forehead kept sliding down pushing my sunglasses into the bridge of my nose and partly obstructing my vision. No matter how much I pulled it back, it continued happening. I tried using the face shield, but my sunglasses kept fogging. I stopped using it, but kept it. Then it snowed and temperatures dropped into the 20's. I thought I'd wear this to shovel and it would work better than when bike riding. Within a short time outside, my ears felt as if the tops were getting frostbite. I didn't have much shoveling and tried to finish, but I was annoyed that my ears were so cold. I had to remove it to use my hat and gaitor to finish. That was it for me. I trashed this hat.

I got this for when I have to snow blow my driveway. Temps can get sub zero where I live and I get blow back from the snow and winds. This hat with a pair of sunglasses provides excellent coverage and protection. It is SO warm that at times I have to take it off early. If you are out braving the cold, ice fishing, snow boarding or just working outdoors this will keep you warm and cozy.

I tested this hat when I was traveling to Europe and boy does it insulate heat. I didn't really use the mask that much since it would be a hassle to remove and put it back on while trying to take a picture. I would highly recommend to pair it with a scarf. Even if it resists cold weather and windy ones, it doesn't really reach the neck area. The style though, in my opinion, is not that great. But in terms of keeping you warm in the winter months of Europe and the Americas, this hat is for you.

Weather proof material on the outside. Plush warm interior.Good protection for the neck.The face mask can be worn with the hat, another hat or byitself if needed.

This hat fits big heads great. It has Velcro on the flaps that cover neck. The mask can be removed and worn without the hat. The hat is lined with thick fur. The outside material is water resistant. It keeps the head, neck and face toasty warm and will come in handy when the freezing cold sets in. It's sturdy and well made.

This is a great hat for winter, particularly if you are like me and like to sit by a fire on a cold and snowy evening with drinks. Your head will not freeze, and neither will your face. It's probably good for hiking too, but I haven't used it for that. The red is nice, and really, my only complaint is I don't like velcro, particularly near my hair which is long. But this hasn't caught my hair yet. I like that the facemask part is detachable, as it's not always needed to keep warm, but if it is cold enough and you still want to drink without exposing your face to the elements and cold, it has a slit that works well enough for straws!
