These mutes do not only fit on a full size violin they can't even fit on a half size they are made defective.

I have two, about 15 years old, on my violin and viola, and have always found the Si-Hon mute (my college violin teacher, the inventor of the now “slide-on” mute) quick & easy to use, gentle on my strings, effective, so I bought two for my church orchestra colleagues. Holy crap, the tubing is shorter and the wire not shaped well for the curve of the strings and bridge! We struggled to get it on their violins for about 10 minutes prior to the rehearsal, then gave up. The next week both had gotten it on their violins after bending the wire legs in a more upward angle. Both were repeatedly flexing the tubing in order to get it to curve, as it should, over their strings. I hate to see what it will do to their strings over time….I foresee the strings shredding. Yikes. I really don’t recommend this mute. What a shame it has been so cheapened; it was one of the better mutes at one time.

Highly recommended for all Fiddlers of any style of music. I like how you can still see the fingerboard and neck when the mute is in place which not all mutes allow. Also, you can get a pretty wide range of tones and timbres by moving the mute in tiny increments. (it involves some experimentation so be prepared to do that.). I’m quite satisfied with this mute. The only con so far is that the first one I tried fitting took a little strategizing but luckily I found a YouTube video that showed the proper way to install it. Once on, it was quite simple to move in and out of mute position with very light finger pressure. Lastly, when not in use, you must pull the mute back onto the winding far enough or it will rattle. You won’t need to remove it to store you instrument, as it sits low enough that the top of the case will not touch it.

Good product. As advertised. It does however mute your violin somewhat even when it is in the slideback position, as anything that touches your strings will do. Also the thread windings on the bottom of your strings make it hard to slide this mute forward and back.

An issue with delivery was quickly resolved with a 10% off coupon added. Nice touch. The mute worked well, but was a little tricky to install. Once attached, however, it created a mild mellow tone. When disengaged, the violin sounds the same. I bought this for my daughter participating in a pit orchestra when the music required quick transition from muted to non-muted playing.

This is an average mute. I had a rubber on and I decided to try the wire mute. I think it does a better job of muting the instrument. But it is a pain in the butt to take on or off. If you never take it off, I guess it would be pretty good.

I recently received my wire mute and absolutely love it. I can adjust how loud I play much more easily than with the other types. It was fast and easy to put on. Thanks again for another great product, ease of ordering and timely receipt of the item. Mary Louise
