phenomenal workmanship, especially for the price. Very easy to assemble and install and mount on the wall. The wood appears to be hand polished, very smooth surface.

This wooden handrail is crazy massive. Why on Earth did they mill the rail so large?? It's much too high and wide for an effective grasp unless you have HUGE hands, and it certainly violates building codes in the U.S. which require that hands can wrap completely around for a secure grasp. The wood itself is very nice and hard. Such a chunk of hardwood in the States would cost probably four times what this does. That's a nice thing, I guess, as long as some tropical forest somewhere is not being decimated to make these. I don't know, maybe the manufacturer found a load of these milled rails at a bargain price, bought them up and then thought up something to make from them.I thought of using them as is, or of cutting them down to make a usable handrail, but in the end, I'm going to use the wood for something else (like, maybe a lumber rack), and use the metal brackets with a normal piece of wooden handrail from a lumberyard.Leaving aside the issue that building codes in the U.S. usually [always?] require returns at the ends of handrails, which this product does not have, the impractical bulk of these rails actually makes this a fairly dangerous product. Too bad, since it is otherwise of high quality. The metal brackets are nice and strong and easy to mount.

That you would recommend they use anchor screws, and you supplied them. The rails should be secured to the wall studs not the drywall.Check the building code.
