Would like the puzzle pieces ti be slightly different - every number and color piece fits in every space-he often puts it together in the wrong order.

This has been my child's most loved item in our rotation. My kid loves ice cream so I thought to get this, but I didn't imagine that it would be such a hit! In terms of the material, the wood is well finished with a glossy clear coat. The pieces feel very sturdy and the board is the perfect size for our shelf. The bottom of the ice cream ball gives it direction, making it such that we don't need any further clarification to differentiate 6 and 9. The only negative in my opinion is that I originally got this so that my child would count and place the number. However, the circles are a little too small to fit when you get to the higher numbers and it is harder for my child to count without getting lost. So in the end, it ends up being used more to put all the numbers in order than as a counting exercise. Additionally, each ice cream is colored and the board has the color written on. But there is nothing else to associate the color to the right piece. I am not particularly concerned on this as my goal was counting and not reading colors.

I like that this puzzle is simple but focuses on a lot: colors, numbers, words (letter exposure), and counting... and it's ice cream, what kid doesn't love ice cream? It is quality wood construction, bright colors, and the pieces fit in without having to force them. I love that there is a divot above the ice cream scoop on the right, so little fingers can easily pick out the ice cream scoop to remove it and move it to another location. What I really love (and others might not), is that the ice creams are all the same size, so you can put any color/number in any spot. This gives me the opportunity to teach number sequence and numeral recognition. It allows me the opportunity to sit with the child and see if they recognize the numbers and what order they go in. Versus, a child having to figure out which shape fits where and therefore not knowing if they really know number sequencing. So kudos for a puzzle that gives teachable moments!
