I will start by saying that I hate sewing and even looking at this I could tell there would be lots but I took the chance anyway mostly because my kid caught sight of it and demanded the fancy bead dragon. I have done about a dozen little critters most of which are from kits like this so I am not quite a 'beginner' but I find these kits kind of fun and an interesting way to build a catalog of patterns. I would say if you have never done something like this at all it is far from beginner friendly but there isn't anything super strange going on so it can be figured out. Had to watch the video for an explanation of how to install the beads but once you watch the video it is pretty clear. I made a few changes to the base kit design but it can probably be done fine with just the kit.Changes I made: used a 2.5mm hook rather than the included partially because my personal tension is very high and can cause holes unless I downsize the hook. The 3mm should probably be fine for most. I skipped the hands and feet because I hate sewing and by the time I got done with the wings, ears, horns, tail, and belly I was not about to add 4 more. My go to method has been using a popcorn/bobble stitch surface crochet onto the body and it looks great for small figures like this. Probably about half the length of the included arms/legs but about as wide.Overall a pretty fun kit you can get creative with. Included plenty of material and lots of extra beads so you can customize.

I enjoyed this kit! I'm new to crocheting and have gotten a few kits to try. It comes everything you need including written instructions and a book of stitches. The yarn is soft and easy to work with. It makes a great gift for friends and family. It was a reasonable priced fit for how cute and fun it was to make and share.

This is SO CUTE! The box comes with everything you need to make two little dragon friends. There's a certificate of adoption and two acrylic boxes to display them when you're done. Not only is there a well-made instruction booklet with photos, but there's an additional booklet that explains all the stitches, so you really could do this without knowing crochet at all beforehand. This would be a great gift for an older child, or even an adult who likes Amigurumi

From my wife: This is an adorable learn to crochet kit for “beginners”. My daughter has done many kits like this by other brands so she breezed through this project using only the paper booklet directions. It comes with a little birth certificate, which I thought was a super cute touch and my daughter loved it, as well. Also included are 2 plastic cubes, you have to assemble, to display your dragon. This is a cute idea, but he’s kind of squished in there and the cube isn’t very sturdy. You can fit your birth certificate in perfectly though, so that was cool. I am a beginner and tried to follow the video and failed miserably. The video itself wasn’t terrible, but I was having a hard time and had to keep restarting the video ( I wish there would’ve been time stamps or something so you could easily rewind and fast forward). Also, I was using the green yarn and there was actually a bit of a difference between it and the yellow as the green strands in the yarn kept wanting to come apart, which made it difficult to work with (confirmed by my daughter, so not just a beginner’s opinion!); I tried to get a picture of this but it’s hard to see. A nice selection of beads was included for the detailing.I think this kit is very cute and has some extra touches that are nice. My daughter loved it; she even said she liked it more than other crochet kits she’s tried. My opinion is it’s not the best for beginners, but I’m going to keep on trying and hopefully one day I’ll finish that green dragon!
