For those curious George types among us.If you know you have a good battery and still a bit slowish strained starter. Replace your almost worn out brushes. This was on a 04 Passat 1.8 t automatic. No need to remove the starter. You replace the brush holder assembly complete. The hard part is getting the starter solenoid connector off. Different than anything else connection wise in VW. Pull on the red/orange tab and is slides right of.Pay attention to the fact that the rubber insert is clocked two ways into the brush holder. Match it up with your old one. The rubber insert doesn't ait symmetrical. You do it wrong and the last two little screws don't line up with the holes right. Otherwise an easy job. And get more life out of your starter
