I have always wanted one of these, and I'm so excited to finally have one. They are a game changer for winding twisted skeins. This one is plastic, and notably not as beautiful as an expensive wooden one, but it works really well. You do have to take care not to catch the yarn on the metal pieces, but it's not that hard to avoid. It clips on anywhere with a thin edge and opens like an umbrella. Easy to manipulate and use. I have not tried using this with my yarn winder to make a cake, I have only used it to make a ball. However, it's no big deal to then wind my yarn into a cake from a ball. No more tangled skeins! No more storing twisted skeins that can come unraveled and get lose in a bin. I love it!

When I got my yarn cake winder, I thought it couldn't possibly get better or easier than that. Then, after winding a bunch of skeins and fighting to keep the yarn from twisting and becoming a mess, I found out about yarn swifts. This is the piece of magic I needed. It's so easy to drop a skein on this and expand it to keep everything spinning nicely. It sets up quickly with a simple clamp to lock it to your work surface and a slide to expand the swift. And I was very pleased to find out that it actually fits back into the provided case with ease. While it looks like it's a bit on the less expensive side, it has worked well so far.Note: On initially unpacking this, I thought I was going to have to fight the white plastic knob to get it to unscrew since the slide mechanism was pinned against it. However, simply unscrewing the wing nut completely removes that problem. Do that first.

This is a decent economy yarn swift that’s small enough for travel, with a few small design flaws.First, the pros. I have two other swifts — a very expensive fancy wooden one, and a cheap wooden one. This has three helpful features that neither of those has — 1) a one-handed clamp to raise and lower/deploy the spokes, which makes it much easier to arrange a skein properly while spreading the swift, 2) flexible vertical pieces, which help to keep the yarn strands from slipping in toward the sharp angle formed by hard slats, and 3, a small crank that allows you to spin the swift semi-easily (actually I’m not sure of the point of this, but maybe there’s a need I just haven’t encountered). It spins quietly so far, and works well for the three average-sized skeins I’ve tried so far.The plastic components of the clamps don’t feel super substantial, and I worry they might not last, but time will tell. The table clamp is compact, which helps it fit in the nice small storage case, but that makes it a bit fiddly to use, since it’s hard to grab/tighten/loosen bits. For example, if the black clamp is turned a little, it won’t clear the round table clamp adjustment wheel. My biggest gripe is that there’s only a rubber pad on one side of the clamp, and the other is bare hard plastic, so if I clamp it tightly to my pine side table, it leaves a mark in the wood.Overall, a functional, compact, economy swift. If I needed another for some reason, I probably wouldn’t buy one at the current price, but if it were a little cheaper, I might!

This is my first yarn swift and I’ve been wanting one for a while. This swift works very well. It appears to be of good quality, and it did a great job of helping me to make a cake from one of my fancier yarns. One of the things I really liked is that it came in a plastic case and I can just pack it back up (although it was a little fiddly getting it back in its tube. The only issue that I had was that whoever screwed the plastic nut on to the clamp bolt did it unevenly and I had quite a time loosening it. It made a horrible ratcheting noise and I thought for sure I might strip the bolt, but it was fine. I just unthreaded it and threaded it on again carefully. It functions very well, and allows you to easily adjust it while you are unwinding. It came with pretty good instructions, too, although I did look at a brief video so that I knew the fine points I’d need to know (like pointers about how to put your yarn on the swift that were helpful). Overall, I am very pleased with it.

This is my first time using one of these but from what I can tell this is a really nice version. I didn’t have any trouble opening or closing. This is a nice version and a value for the price. It’s easy to use and fit the skein I was using. It folds nicely and functions as expected. It’s made caking up my yarn a breeze.

This is a decent basic swift. It is best for the casual fiber artist and would not be well suited for use all day every day.The fact that it comes with a simple container is nice for keeping it compact when not in use.The clamp is a little annoying and could stand to be a little bigger for better balance, but like I said this is fine for the casual user, so it is fine. The spin is smooth and consistent and it works just fine.Overall, this is a great option for a starter swift. This review is based on the price on the day this was written at 29$.

Absolutely fantastic. First experience with a yarn swift. I love it. It was easy to put together. The instructions are clear. It spins around nicely. Now I just need to get better yarn, because the hank of yarn I tried it with was unbearably tangled, and at first, I thought it was this contraption, but no, this is a fantastic economical yarn swift. I ended up making my own "hank" of yarn with a skein to verify, and it worked brilliantly. What a bargain.
