This does a very good job at winding up a mess of yarn, and so much quicker than doing it by hand. The directions were easy to follow on where to get the yarn started and easy to assemble. I don't know if it is actually by design, but if you get a knot on the yarn it stops and I had to turn it off and back on to get it going again, if on a lower speed it stopped but would start spinning again once I got the knot out. It has a small clamp to connect to a table, the cord is about 5.5-6ft long.

For 30 years, my wife has been hand-winding her yarn, that is, until I saw this. Such a simple and practical item to. She loves it. It's well made, lightweight, not large, and stores easily back in the box and out of the way when she's not using it.

The Yarn Winder, Electric Yarn Ball Winder, 10oz Large Automatic Yarn Winder for Crocheting is an innovative and convenient tool for crafters, particularly those who enjoy crocheting or knitting. This is an electric yarn ball winder, meaning it takes over the winding process automatically, saving time and effort compared to manual winding. With a capacity of 10 ounces, it can hold a decent amount of yarn, allowing you to wind larger skeins without constant refills. The ability to adjust the winding speed offers flexibility, allowing users to choose a speed that works best for their yarn type or project. The dual-spring mechanism helps maintain consistent tension while winding, preventing yarn from becoming too tight or loose, which could affect the final yarn ball's quality. Overall, the Electric Yarn Ball Winder seems like a great tool for those who frequently wind yarn for their crochet or knitting projects. It offers a good balance of features, including automatic winding, adjustable speed, and a dual-spring tension mechanism. If you’re looking to save time and get more consistent yarn balls, this tool could be a solid investment.

This electric yarn winder is pretty simple to assemble and use. I often crochet experimental items or re-do projects with everyday yarn. After pulling apart into a big messy heap, this yarn winder makes a nice, new ball very quickly and gets me back to the next project fast. For premium yarns, they all need to be balled and this winder makes quick, neat, evenly wound balls with ease.Plastic construction is decent but not heavy duty IMO; it can clamp to a work table for stability; comes with AC cord and stores easily when not in use. Value for the item is OK; adds convenience and saves time on winding leaving more time for the fun part.**Update** After several big projects, this winder gets a rare upgrade from 4 to 5 stars. Such a huge time saver and beautiful symmetric yarn balls: Value is much more than OK! Would definitely recommend.

Yarn Winder, Electric Yarn Ball WinderI really really wanted to love this yarn winder. I saw it as an upgrade to my manual one, as I do a lot of fiber crafts. Off the bat I noticed that the cone that spins was perfectly smooth, which is a bit of a bad sign. The first couple wraps of your yarn have nothing to grip on and just slid off. Fine, I can work with that. I get it going, and find that any point of counter pressure at all would stop the machine entirely. So if I have a ball of yarn in a bowl on the floor, if it gets caught on itself ever so slightly, the machine will stop. This made winding yarn somewhat dreadful. I also was hoping the speed would be a bit more, but I can crank my manual winder at a much faster speed without trying. The last thing I am extremely concerned about is the yarn mast leading onto the rotating segment. After about 5 cakes of yarn, I noticed that the yarn was rubbing the thing raw, and cutting through the plastic.I don't see this little guy lasting too long, unfortunately. Which is disappointing.

The instructions for putting it together were very straight forward and easy to follow, and it was really easy since it's only a few pieces. It clamped down on my desk really well and I didn't have to worry about it wiggling loose or falling off while winding my yarn. I was able to make a HUGE cake with this . It was surprising that it was able to spin one that big considering it's not very large itself. All that being said, this isn't something that you can just turn on and leave the yarn in the bowl next to it and expect a cake at the end. It will stop turning at the slightest resistance, which is good to keep the motor intact but means you'll be sitting there frantically unrolling yarn the entire time.
