This was very challenging due to the fact that the numbers were barely visible and tiny,

I got the wildflower one and the cobblestone street one. The design of the wildflower one is good, not too simple or too complex. But the cobblestone street one is way too complex and detailed, I’m not even going to attempt that one. The brushes they come with are cheap quality so I just used by own. Dislike how they arrived folded, I haven’t been able to get rid of the creases. I wish they’d just roll them up to ship instead. All the colors needed at least two coats of paint.

This is a great kit for an experienced painter. The print is clear and the canvas is thick and porous making it easy to get the color where you want it and to produce a classic effect. This doesn’t have a LOT of tiny spaces so you will need to be patient with this one.

The great thing about most of these Paint by Numbers sets is that the canvas is lightly shaded (as well as numbered) with corresponding colors to help you better distinguish where certain colors go when things get small. But this paint set of Wildflowers does not have this feature on the canvas, so I took off one star. When a canvas is completely void of these shades (like this one) it is better for the painter to do one section at a time instead of one color throughout at a time. One other thing that is different about this set, but not necessarily negative, is that the canvas is coated with some kind of material which slightly smooths the texture of the canvas. The paint adheres to this coating as it should. The result is simply a slightly smoother look and feel to the texture of the painting.Paint by Number sets have greatly improved over the last few years by using real canvas and good quality acrylic paints. It's a great way to get into painting because with practice you can use methods of mixing the adjacent colors together and shading so that the end result no longer looks like it was paint by numbers.Do be aware that you need a frame to stretch the canvas on because it does not come with one. We make ours out of 1x2 wood and staple the canvas around the back which works really well, but you can likely order them on Amazon too. You will also want an easel and that too is available on Amazon in many different varieties. My wife likes the type that can be small enough for sitting down working at a table and with extendable legs that will also allow standing with the easel on the floor or outside on the ground. If you can't get a frame you could try stapling the canvas to a cut-to-size thick piece of cardboard. You might be able to paint without an easel but I recommend one if possible. These paint-by-number sets are great for those who enjoy solitary projects, who enjoy the act or have the skill to paint but maybe not the talent (yet) to create their own productions. It's akin to a coloring book for adults yet more sophisticated because you learn by doing. As you gain more experience you can experiment with colors by mixing the paint on a palette to create new shades and colors and apply them on the canvas. You can always correct the results you don't like. In my opinion this is much more satisfying than adult coloring books. You don't need to create a separate space in your home for this, you can do it anywhere. I do mine in the saloon (living room/gathering place) of our boat on calm days when the boat isn't rocking. I simply place a large piece of cardboard under my work space in case of accidents. The sets usually come with two narrow brushes and one wide brush which is really all you need, but as you get better at creating your own version of these paintings you might want to get your own brushes. These sets have plenty of paint so go ahead and lay it on thick, in fact the texture of the canvas requires a thick layer. There is plenty of paint left over to experiment with and to fix anything you think needs improvement. If you're a beginner I recommend starting from the top down, painting one color at time, using dots for tiny spaces until you get the feel of how much paint is needed. To help myself be more efficient I look over the whole canvas, sometimes with a magnifying glass, and place a dot of paint on all corresponding areas, then I go back and fill in those areas, outlining it first and filling it in next. One note, these canvases arrive folded, which gives them creases, but I simply iron them and roll them up for later use. Rolling them also helps reduce the creases that didn't come out with ironing, and stapling them to a wooden frame (or possibly to a large, thick piece of cardboard) when ready for use removes any residual creases in no time. All the best,Mrs. dr

The numbers are so small that you can't see them unless your a couple inches from the canvas.

This was fun to do. The image is kind of abstract I guess you would call it. The shapes were kind of messy and vague rather than detailed and realistic. They were like blobs of color that, when put together, create an image. This was great because it meant I didn't have to worry too much about staying within the lines. lol. There were a lot of tiny areas, but I was able to get through this painting fairly quickly because the areas didn't need to be too precise. The quality of this kit is pretty much the same as most other kits out there, which means the canvas & paints were fine, but the brushes are terrible. If you're planning on making PBN kits a hobby, I highly recommend investing in a nicer set of brushes, especially detail brushes. They'll last a lot longer and won't fall apart or become deformed as easily.
