About this item

  • Mineral paper is made from 80% calcium carbonate which provides a unique surface for water based or dry media. A great alternative to wood-based paper.
  • Tear-resistant, foldable, and non-wrinkling. Will not bleed through, even when soaked. Mineral paper is a great surface for almost any media wet or dry, and can be ink jet printed (results will vary depending on the printer).
  • Its bright white vellum like surface allows for crisp lines, saturated colors and just the right amount of absorbency for a wide variety of creative techniques.
  • Acid free. Bright white. Not recommended for oil-based paints or oil pastels. 20 sheets per pad. 100lb/150 gsm. Also available in 9″ x 12″ (JMP200) and 11″ x 14″ (JMP400)
  • Size: 6 inches Width x 8 inches Height
  • GSM: 150
  • Weight: 4.25 oz

Yasutomo and Company was established in June 1954 by Mr. Ben Yasutomo. A man of vision, Mr. Yasutomo believed that global marketing was possible back in the 1950s because he recognized that consumers in both the U.S. and Japan wanted products from the other’s country. He decided to set up an office in San Francisco, strategically located to develop commerce between the two countries. The initial goal was to supply stationery and artist materials from Japan to the U.S. and to distribute American candy and snack food products to Japan.

So thin, but alcohol markers did not bleed thru at all. Photos are fineliner and 1-3 layers of markers. I did find that markers would easily smear dried "waterproof" Micron ink lines if the lines were heavier, specifically from a Micron brush pen. Marker edges stayed crisp without blooming. Paler colors stay paler than with fiber paper. It would be easy paper to trace with. Very nice surface even for a very fine 005 (0.2mm) pen.

I really love this paper, and will be purchasing more! It stays wet longer than traditional watercolor paper which is fantastic.

This is really cool paper. It's a nice color white and has a very smooth textureless finish. There's no weave or weft. It is a matte surface.I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I am looking forward to trying it out using several different mediums.Update: I've had a chance to try this paper with alcohol markers and was very impressed. The colors were bright and clear and there was no bleed-thru. Can highly recommend this for almost any medium.

As with anything you put alcohol on. It’s trial and error. But I feel like this is a little bit more predictable which I like.

If you haven’t tried mineral paper yet, now is the time to carpe diem! I’ve purchased a dozen plus pads of this paper in the last year, I work with this paper more than not. It’s truly unique in the way the paper interacts with different mediums. The paper is truly water resistant which allows the artist to create different effects than on other papers. It takes some getting used to but is legit fun to play with to experiment or expand your repertoire. It is also incredibly smooth for a satisfying drawing experience.

I bought this paper to use with alcohol inks, and I wasn’t disappointed. Works very well. I often use plastic graphix paper, which is thicker and heavier. This paper is thin & lightweight of course ( like YUPO) but it does not affect the quality of a finished creation with my usual choice of Ranger inks. Would highly recommend & very affordable, especially when learning.
