In the 17 years we've had an underground pet fence (PetSafe brand), I'm on my 4th boundary wire installation. The first 3 were using the thin PetSafe wire and all 3 failed, mostly due to deterioration of the wire coating and the difficulty of splicing the wire properly if it was damaged.This time I decided to do it right by getting a single spool of this 14 gauge copper clad steel wire. There is simply no comparison between this beefy wire and the whimpy little wire that PetSafe sells. We installed it using the "Trencher" function on our edger, which makes a trench about 2-inches deep and using a lot of clips to fasten the wire into the bottom of the 2" cut.After installing the wire and twisting the lines that feed from the loop back to the house (as required to keep that leg from setting off our pet's collar) I checked the loop with an Ohm meter. Although the seller did not include a resistance spec for this wire, similar 14 gauge copper clad utility locate wire specs out to 12 ohms per thousand feet. My 900 foot installation measured just under 10 Ohms...which is pretty close to that.Fast forward to this morning when a lightning strike hit right next to the house and toasted the PetSafe transmitter....BUT I checked the wire and it still measures the same 9.8 Ohms....meaning the wire loop held up fine....Anyway, I'm very pleased with this wire It should last much longer than the 3 previous installations, and since it is so thick and obvious, if it does get cut it should be much easier to spot the damage.

Makes the standard fence wire that comes with most kits look like something fisher price might sell. Much more resistant to lightning strikes than standard wire. I live in central Florida… the standard wire that came with the sportdog (they’re awesome btw, excellent quality products and customer service that I rarely see nowadays. Highly recommend.) kit I bought got struck 2 weeks after installing. Replaced with this wire and it’s been working great for 2+ years now.

I really like this gauge of wire it for my in ground dog fence Ive had major problems with the wire breaking constantly but it was only 16 or 20 gauge not great for the ground but this 14 gauge im positive won't break it is very thick the ground movement and pressure in the winter won't have an impact on this wire Im very pleased!! It was delivered 3 days before the scheduled delivery date I was very impressed with that as well!!No complaints happy all around!!

I installed over 1700 ft of this wire for my dog's invisible fence system. The wire coating is super thick and the copper wire is great quality. Ironically, a few days after I buried this wire, we had large Duke Power truck service one of the poles on our property. It has been raining non stop and just about everything was turning to mud. The power truck's tires sunk down past the wire at one point but, it didn't damage the wire one bit! I know if I had used the tiny wire that comes with the fence kits, it would have snapped (bringing my entire invisible fence loop down until repair). This is one product that gives you a feeling that it will last a lifetime, thus justifying the extra expense!

I used this for a robot mower fence. I had significant problems with the wire that Husqvarna provided with their robot mower. Many breaks after every overwinter here in New England. This wire should not break and has a much thicker jacket made of polyethylene which is resistant to UV and deterioration. The largest installer of dog fences in New England recommended this wire and suggested that if buried 2 to 3 inches should last many years without breaks. So far so good. Works perfectly with my Husqvarna system.

Save yourself some headache and just buy this wire first with your underground fencing system. We originally bought 20 gauge wire with our system. Installed it and it worked great for a month and then broke somewhere underground. I purchased this wire and it was WAY easier to install (you can go deeper into the ground with it) and works amazingly well. Wish I would have just gotten this to begin with and not had to install wire twice!

1000’ is heavy. But this is really well constructed wire that won’t break easily like the 20g wire I originally installed. Hated to shell out the bucks, but you get what you pay for. Works perfectly with my Invisable fence transmitter. You can crank up the field as high as you like. Since I lay most of it on open ground on my wooded lot I like yellow color as it makes it easy to see wire when checking for a break. I use horse shoe nails and tack it a few inches above ground on occasional tree so easy to spot when covered with leaves. Slack let’s it lie on ground and nature covers it for me. Great product.

I eventually used 2000 feet of this wire. I was wanting a wire that was strong and would carry a strong signal to dog collars. This wire does that. I had a bit of difficulty inserting and keeping the wire in the transmitter. The wire would go into the slot but would slide out. It finally caught hold and has been ok for several days. If need be, I can file the wires down or just roughen them so the "catch" in the transmitter will hold. I placed three orders and paid different prices per foot for each--my fault. 14 gauge wire is much more expensive that the 18-20 gauge that comes with a kit and what is sold at most stores, but it breaks so easily and some seems to just deteriorate. This wire will keep me from the frustration of searching hours for breaks. This wire is thick enough to be strong and the insulation is thick as well. I am pleased with my installation and look forward the silence of the fence alarm on a cold, rainy day.
