Awesome set, have enjoyed many games so far. I'd recommend that anyone interested get the large tiles though, as the default size is a little small.

First time buying a mahjong set. Taught my friends and family riichi mahjong. Everyone (myself included) were very impressed by the tiles. The set just looks so good. The Case it comes with is very organized and useful, however I wish it was big enough to contain A4 paper without having to fold.

The listing does say what the actual dimensions of the tiles are, and they do match up correctly with what I received, so there are no complaints there.Just for comparison, I photographed the One Dot tile with the matching tile from three other sets that I have. Going from left to right we have the Yellow Mountain Riichi tile, to the right of that is a tile from an American Mahjong set that I purchased in 1995, to the right of that is a tile from a Singapore Mahjong set, and to the far right is the Gustaria Extra Large Chinese tiles. The thickness of the Riichi tile is just slightly less than the Singapore tile, but thicker than the American and of course much thinner than the Extra Large Chinese tile.I wish that I had a good Amos Riichi set to compare the tiles to as those seem to be the gold standard for Riichi, but those sets only seem to be available on Amazon.jp.Overall I would say they are fine for what they are. I thought a set of black Mahjong tiles would look cool, and they do. I have yet to play with them, so I don't know how well I will like them when it actually comes to gameplay. YMMV.

The tiles seem like good quality, and has all the pieces it should. I do have some minor gripes though. For one I would prefer the red text to be a bit brighter. It is a very dark maroon that is hard to distinguish from the black text. Second I would like to see green text for the bamboo and dragon for a nicer looking set (plus there is an all green yaku). These tiles are consistent with normal Japanese sets though. Finally I would prefer a case with locking latches rather than just snap buttons but at this price point you won't find much better.Overall it's a great purchase with quality for the price and I would still recommend it for a beginner riichi set.

Somehow I missed these tiles had no green paint at all, only black and red (sometimes things don't photograph well, and I failed to read all the questions and answers), so I was disappointed to discover all the Bamboo tiles and the Green dragon tiles were painted with black. I'm not totally sure why (is the green paint that expensive?). If you're the industrious sort, you could probably strip the paint and repaint them, but that's a lot of effort so your Ryuuiisou hand is actually, you know, green. The tiles themselves are nice, with good weight, but the case seems flimsy and brittle, and the center tray of the one I ordered came damaged. The dice and point sticks are cheap and poorly-painted (lots of smudged paint), but the fact that the set comes with them at all is better than most. This is a budget set, and it's fine for the money. Be sure you're playing with people that can read the characters suit and can differentiate the Green dragon tiles from the other wind tiles, or have a reference handy for them.

I'll admit that I have very little experience with mahjong sets, but for this price this seems like a solid set.The case seems sturdy enough for storage, and I feel like it will probably hold up well over time, but it could go either way. The trays for the tiles and the accessories feel very durable, and I imagine they'll outlast the case. The wind/dealer marker is made from fairly light plastic, and is probably the cheapest feeling part of the set, with the dice also feeling a little too light for my tastes. That said, they're serviceable, so it's not too big of a negative. The betting sticks feel quite a bit better, with a surprising amount of weight for being small bits of plastic. My only complaint is that a few of them have some paint smearing out of the dots, but it's certainly not the worst I've seen in a boxed game. The tiles are absolutely the highlight of the set. Compact, weighty, well engraved, precisely painted. They hold together well when you try to pick them up as a hand, and they're heavy enough that table bumps shouldn't upset them much. The yellow backs don't appear to be painted, and there doesn't appear to be a seam. Overall, the tiles are a delight to handle and stack.

For the cost this is a terrific set for anyone who is interested in playing Riichi Mahjong. It comes with everything you need to play a game (including the red dora tiles), and those items that are absolutely needed (tiles and point sticks) are very sturdy. The wind indicator will work as will the dice, and since they really don't undergo the handling the tiles and point sticks will you should have no problems with them lasting (they are easy enough to replace if something does happen). Some items to note:- The color green is not present. The bamboo and green dragon tiles are painted black; still looks very nice in my opinion.- The tiles do not have any English letters or numbers on them. While it is easy enough to tell the numbers of the dots and bams you will have to learn to identify the numbers, winds, and green dragon (since it is the same color as the winds) if you don't know them already.- The size of the tiles is considered Japanese small (25mm x 18mm x 16mm) by comparison a Japanese standard set is only slightly bigger (27mm x 20mm x 16mm).- The case is probably the most flimsy part of the whole set. I would not expect this to last very long, but if you are like me you don't want the set for the case.Overall I am very impressed with the set, and look forward to playing for years to come. I know you can get better sets out there, but you will pay a whole lot more.
