These tuning pegs are functionals as long as they are used in a cheap instrument, work just fine with a cheap quality violin were you don't want to spend much money, but they ARE NOT SOLID EBONY, they are just cheap (and soft) white wood maybe not even pine, and painted black.

just a note if it makes a difference, yes they are "BLACK" no they are NOT Ebony....white wood with black stain
