You can use thread under 2mm and 4 strands of thread with a good twist. If the thread is too thick, the crochet hook slot will be too small and full to pull the thread, and if the thread has a bad twist, the crochet hook will only reach 3 strands of the thread, and the other strand will not be reached, and the strand will be easy to be knotted.

1 of the hooks were bent and broken I threw it out , no instructions with it ,no information on what string to buy

The instructions were terrible. The handle that meets the crank mechanism, and turns on has little grip. The plastic handle kept slipping off and after one use of trying to use it for the first time the plastic was completely shredded and worn away. The distorted shape appears as though a dog chewed it. I found clearer instructions on YouTube but by then the handle was too far gone to even try it again. I also found that the weight was slightly not heavy enough. Once you get things going, then perhaps it would suffice.

This item does NOT work. I am an experienced knitter and have used these machines in the past. It does Not pickup the yarn as it is supposed too. Even placing it where it should be does not help. I bought this for my daughter to use but what a joke. Doesn’t even come close to working. It also looks like the one I got was used as there was fluff on the needles as if someone used it and returned it . I did attempt it with multiple types of yarn just be sure but it is garbage. Don’t waste your time or money. Believe the bad reviews. You don’t want the this
