I lid of the pot leaks so much steam. Had to clamp it with many small c-clamps to keep it in. The the overall quality is bad, the metal on the standoffs is razor thin and the leg tabs cut me. I bought one to add a filter to a Vevor 13.5 I'd bought with no thump figured what the heck, wish I'd stuck with that brand for my experiment/cheap extra parts purchase. The only redeeming thing is the worm pot which is welded too and bottom, but also uses larger pipe and doesn't cool as well. I ended up using that as an auxiliary cooler and I'll use the pot for soup. The lid and latches are too weak, and the gasket was deformed and leaking very quickly forcing me to stop/start my run to repair. I usually don't do one star reviews but this one is it.

Used this still for the first time to test recipes for gin botanicals. It was easy to assemble except for one thing. I already owned a small pump (NOT INCLUDED WITH THE STILL) I use for my larger 13 gal. still. The tubing included with this still was slightly smaller than the connection point on the pump. It was a real struggle to get the tubing onto the connector but I finally managed to get it on and no leaks. I may change out that piece of tubing for the correct size in the future so I don’t have to keep it on the pump when I store it. If you are purchasing a new pump you should check the fitting against the size of the tubing to avoid this hassle. The other thing is the discharge port on the worm coil is really close to the top edge. It took some fine tuning to keep the cooling water from overflowing out of the condenser. The silicone gaskets on the ends of the steel hoses are really easy to lose when they fall out of the hoses so keep an eye on them and use the screw on end caps to keep them on the hoses. Overall this still served my purposes well for a simple pot still and would work well for a beginner not wanting a large cash outlay while they are learning the basics of distilling. The directions for assembling are terrible including the ones online which is a real disadvantage for a beginner. Having said that I still recommend it.

Thermometer clearly does not work. I’m producing my first run now and noticed it does not function. Had it not been for this it would have been 5 stars. Also the seal around the thumper doesn’t fit correctly it’s way too tight and bends the lid.

The still is good quality, and might be hand-adapted from regular household items, but I am not entirely sure. It looks like it will do the trick for quite a while. My only concern for now is that there are a couple of gaskets, one on the main boiler pot, and one on the “flavoring” pot that I worry about. They are silicone/rubber gaskets that might be difficult to find replacements for should they wear out. But, maybe I worry too much as I have a 30 year old German pressure cooker that finally became obsolete because there are no more gaskets available- so gaskets can last for quite some time if taken care of. I have not distilled anything yet, still fermenting because still arrived much sooner than anticipated. I will update on my experience. For now, I am quite happy.

Fantastic set! Highly recommend this version with the thumper/doubler. All the seals are great, no need for putty, and the condenser is very level, no need to adjust. My notes:- Don't use an electric hot plate; not a consistent heat source and the bottom of the pot isn't completely flat which doesn't fit correctly on the hot plate; just use an open flame- The more vertical the column, the higher the proof, which is why I ran it from the floor to the table- Ethanol evaporates at 173 DegF, so that should be all you need to produce a gas, but the doubler also has to reach 173 DegF, which is why the temperature is reading over 173; just stay below 212- You don't need a pump for the condenser, I just added ice and as it melted periodically drained it and poured in more ice/water; just keep the water cold- Only complaint is the doubler isn't very sturdy, it's movement is at bay to the hoses into it and out of it, so I cut holes into that wood to keep it in place, almost like a mountMy recipe was 2 lbs brown sugar, 1 jar of molasses, 3 gallons of water, 1 packet of regular yeast, let sit for 7 days, produced a little over a pint of 150 proof rum.
