Installed on cummins oil pan. Worked for one winter then the pad shorted out and almost burned my truck down

I bought two Zerostart heating pads to winterize my rig. Neither of them lasted a week. Now it is -40° and I have to cause unnecessary wear and tear on my vehicle engine with every start. Past the return policy date and had to buy two more heating pads of a different brand. Stay away from anything by zerostart, total garbage.

We used this on a skid steer, and it worked fine for about two years, then failed, evidently just burnt out. Should last a LOT longer than 2 years.

I bought this for my BMW 328ix however I didn’t realise this model tops out at 200F. It just barely fit on the side of the oil pan, kinda sticks out half an inch on two sides. Anyway, it barely makes any difference when it’s -30 out. Car still takes 10 minutes before warm air comes out. Starts a little bit easier. I’m sure it warms the oil but that’s it. Smells like an electrical fire in my garage every time I use it. Horrible smell.I’m not sure if the smaller 250W / 300F pad would have been better.I’m sure it will help the engine for days when its below -20C but otherwise I don’t even use it.

So the pad definitely gets hot, no doubt, unfortunately all the heat doesn't go into the oil pan like I was hoping it would. Using my thermal gun, this pad only raised my oil temperature 20F above the ambient outside temps. I was truly expecting to see my oil temp near operating temperature. Unfortunately no where near. The only reason I can think of is because the unit is losing a lot of heat via radiant heat away from the engine. The install I did was textbook perfect, paint removed, pan warm and I used a roller to stick on evenly plus I am a HD mechanic by trade. I'm hoping there's a way to somehow make the heat be forced up into the oil more......

Installed two on the boat. Twin Cummins QSM11 motors. The best and safest way to keep the engine room warm over the winter.

I am very pleased with the heating power of this product. FINALLY, my starter was able to turn over my diesel engine in 5 degree weather.

Installed this pad on my 2005 Sprinter. The 5" x 7" pad JUST fits the bottom of the oil pan. I used a pad sander to get down to bare metal, then cleaned up with alcohol. The 500w pad gets super hot and has been working well in VT. winter. Its been down to 12 degrees with a below 0 test coming up this week. Will update then. Great addition for cold weather starts.Update: -2 degrees this AM. Truck kicked right over. (Must also mention I keep a battery tender connected in this weather)

When my SO remembers to plug this in, his engine starts right up regardless of outside temperature. He is very happy with this purchase

Works perfectly. On cold days this makes engine start on a diesel much better.
