Loved it for 14 months. Then it started dispensing water, all by itself, as it got near to boiling. Scalding water all over the counter and floor. The only way to stop it is to unplug it. Seems a lot of money for just over a year of proper functioning.

I've had an old Tiger 3L boiler for 5-7 years and it's getting a bit ratty and greasy, so I was so excited to see this on sale, and get one that's so well rated. Unfortunately, I'm super disappointed with this. With my first one, I tried boiling water 3 times, but each time, got an HH code error (overheating issue, it's not suppose to do that for just boiling water). The online Amazon chat person was amazing, and had another one sent to me by the next day (incredible), but unfortunately, the same thing happened: HH error code. I'm following the directions and boiling water to the max line, but it's just not performing right. A few others have this issue on Amazon.com too. I really wanted this boiler but will look elsewhere.

Perfect condition on arrival. This is the second Zojirushi I have the pleasure to see in operation. The first one is on my counter at home and I have been consistently well satisfied in its performance and features. It really does do what it is supposed to very well. I have the same size but lesser model myself not hybrid that goes about $50 less money. This model is even better. I gave this one to my sister for a housewarming gift and it operates identically with less power since it's better insulated. It shows more wattage at the mfr site 800 vs 725 i think, since it boils slightly faster on a new fill. In the winter this doesn't really matter since heat would only go into your living space you usually need to heat anyway. But in warmer months the superior insulation of this hybrid will save money and avoid wasting energy. Greener is better. There is a super convenient timer to temporarily turn it off for up to 10 hrs, then it automatically heats your water up and is ready all day again.Note: Stainless is the outside attractive clear coated finish perfect for wiping clean and shiny. The inside is actually non stick coating looking for easy cleaning but should never be done with abrasive. So far 5 months in use, I have not anywhere any deposits to clean yet but if I do get them I will use the citric powder non abrasive clean recommended. There was never any discernible taste added to the water by this boiler. Being a hot tea drinker, I couldn't be happier with how handy these darn things are.Caution: Do not put this directly close under clear coated wood finished cupboards as the steam could damage your cupboards as it did ours a bit before we caught it. I believe that happens on new water fills as the water is brought to a full boil before coming down to one of three standing temperatures. I have moved ours , the non hybrid one, to a part of the counter where any occasional steam coming out of the vent at the top back would harmlessly escape into free airspace.

Excellent water boiler. Look for one to replace my old Panasonic. Don't want to buy this kind of boiler that is made in China but unfortunately for some reason, even the expensive Panasonic water boilers were made in China.Nice build and steel outside look, the water boiled quickly and have different adjustments. The most annoying part is the music it plays when the water is boiled but that can be turned off quite easily.Best of all is that it is still Made in JAPAN!

For the last 20+ years I have used an assortment of In-Sink-Erator hot water faucets. We drink a lot of tea, make oatmeal every morning and it makes boiling water much faster. Unfortunately, our last one, after 17 years, started leaking. I checked out the new ones and apparently they just aren't made as well. Further, it was installed in our utility room since we don't have room around our kitchen sink for both the water filter and the hot water tap. I wanted something closer to where we use it all the time.I just happened on this product while looking at the in sink products. I just received it a couple of days ago. Setup was a breeze and it's working exactly as advertised. I've found the Zojirushi products (such as rice cookers) are very well made and well worth the price. This one doesn't disappoint.A few things I've found already:1. I really enjoy the ability to move the dispenser (I hate to call it a machine, it's too nice!) around easily. The handle is very well made and, even full of water, is not too heavy and with that handle feels very secure. Often when moving things around that are heavy I will automatically put a hand underneath it to steady and secure it. With this dispenser it's not necessary.2. When they say the thermos will hold heat they're not kidding. The first night I just turned it off. At that time it was at 195 degrees. Eight hours later it was at about 150 degrees and took very little time to heat up. Last night I tried the timer. It played a cute little tune when it went off and, this morning, played another one when it went on. When we got back from our walk we had hot water ready for our tea and oatmeal.3. The water flow is very strong. In fact, I believe it runs faster than the old In-Sink-Erator! You can slow this down by choosing "Cafe Drip" but I haven't found the need for that yet.4. The pump does make some noise but it is quieter than our Keurig coffee maker. So, if I already have a Keurig (which works very well, thank you) why don't I just use that? Primarily, the limited number of choices I have. I want something that will dispense anywhere from a third of a cup (two of them for oatmeal) to my large mug of tea which holds someplace north of 24oz. Further this dispenser is immediate where I have to wait for the Keurig (admittedly not very long) and I'm just used to using a hot water tap.One thing I saw mentioned in several reviews as a negative was the magnetic plug. My point of view is that this is actually a positive thing not negative. Many are used to the new magnetic plugs in computers and tablets. In those it is very easy to knock off the plug without knowing it. This dispenser, however, has found the perfect middle ground. The magnet itself is very strong (something that wouldn't work real well around a computer!). And, there are two mini rods that insert into the plug holding it securely. It does take a little effort to remove it but not that much. Even more important, the dispenser rotates on a lazy-susan like bottom. Should the power cable get too tight it won't pull out of the wall, bending the prongs like a "normal" connector would. Nor will it loosen the connector in the dispenser itself. It will just disconnect. You'll know that happens because it will beep and the display will go out. This is exactly, IMHO, how power connectors should be made. So, if you're thinking about replacing an existing hot water tap, or you just want to have nearly boiling water available at any time, please don't hesitate to purchase this dispenser. I will update this review six months from now to keep track of how it's performing for those interested. I would bet, right now, that it will be the same as when I purchased it!Thank you for reading this review and may your tea always be hot!September 2019I've now had this boiler for six years. We literally use it every single day. Until I cut back on my tea we would fill it sometimes twice a day. And, during hummingbird season it gets a workout!I would still recommend it wholeheartedly. It's one of the best built items in my kitchen. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Solid product, able to keep water warm (not hot) for up to 24hr without using electricity. Super convenient to use. Looks great works great, I can't live without it now. Only complaint is that once I hit the "boil" buttom I can't cancel it. Sometime I just want to heat up the water a bit without boiling, but the machine will not allow this. It boils all the way everytime.

I ordered this and was very impressed with the machine itself - high quality, energy efficient, etc. like all the other reviews say. However, I returned the item because I was expecting it to be able to change temperature more quickly. I like green tea first cup in the morning at 175 degrees. Then white tea next at 185 degrees. Then herbal tea at 200 or 212.With this device, you hit the boil button after filling with water, and then if you set it on 175 degrees it takes it 4 hours for the temperature to drop to 175 degrees. I need something that can change faster. So I just ordered a Cuisinart electric kettle - I have one of these at home already and ordered this second one for the office. It allows me to change the temperature more quickly based on the kind of tea I want.

I discovered these type of water boilers (a small Zojirushi one) during a stay at Tokyo hotel and when back in US, I immediately purchased one. It has been one of the best purchases I made and already served me for 2 years. This product not only looks great but when I started using it, I noticed that I agreed with every design feature. Over the two years, there was only one thing I could not figure out: How to cancel a re-boil. And I discovered that as well. Besides that, I have never found any design decisions that made no sense or did not like about this product. If I could chose a christmas gift for my parents or siblings, this would be right on top of the list. I'm also not sure what material the shiny metallic body is made off but mine looks absolutely brand new after much heavy use. I'm glad I got this one instead of a plastic one. It would be so great i all products were made like this.A few comments:1 - If you use distilled water like I do, the machine needs absolutely no maintenance. Not even a cleaning as the water just cycles thru it. But if you use running water like I used to, after a few months some crystal-clear flakes begins to form and you have to run a cleaning cycle as described in the manual. It is much cheaper to buy a gallon tub of "citric acid" for horses than buying small cleaner packets (also citric acid) or just cooking citric acid. Exact same thing but at a fraction of the price. All available on Amazon of course.2 - To cancel a boil, push the timer button. Then a push a few more times so it comes out of the timer mode. Besides that, everything else is intuitive.3 - Make sure to keep the manual. There are only a few settings to change, such as the music setting, that is tricky but described in the manual.UPDATE after 4 years:It looks like I write this review 2 years ago after I already had the product for two years and I would consider it one of best purchases I ever made. It works great, give you the convenience of having boiled water all off the time (you will miss it when guest at other people's houses). Because of this product every time I need something related or Japanese (like Bento box I recently purchased) I look for the Zojirushi name.Over the past 2 years I have learned one important thing about this product:If you live in a area where water quality is average or worse, you need to clean this about every 30-60 days. It works great until you see these ghostly snow flaky items floating in your hot water. I'm not sure what they are (and they have no taste or texture) but cleaning it gets rid of them.If you live somewhere where the water quality is good, or have distiller like I do, there is no cleaning needed at all. I use distilled water most of the time and regular water rest of the time and have not had to clean this for more than two years now. It is perfectly clean inside and due to the design, the water is always flushing thru it when you use it so it keeps itself clean. After around 1500 days of use mine has not aged, rusted, discolored any. The only thing hurting its look is a single ding the stainless steel got and I'm thinking about taking it to a dingless car repair shop to take out, otherwise looks and works like new.Around 2000 days now (1988 days). I thought it had rusted at bottom of the window (I splash a lot of water) but a napkin wiped the stain off so no rust. This thing remains awesome.Around 2350 days now. Finally something has gone wrong. The rubber that seals under the lid is cracked, about 1 vertical crack every inch all around. Doesn't seem to effect anything and otherwise this works great. The replacement part looks darker (black) and is $5.00 plus $2.10 shipping. p.s. Looks like this model has been replaced with a new one and looks like new one is also made in Japan; nice!Update after 6.5 years (day 2482). I bought the replacement seal (same color as original) but once I removed screws from cover it began falling part. The inside of cover is all brittle and just touching it makes it fall apart. Buying a replacement for $22.00 plus $6.00 shipping. Apparently the the lid is meant to be replaced every year (based on other reviews). Otherwise the boiler is looking and working like new.
