Picked up this filter bag hoping to use it as part of the filtration of rainwater running into my newly constructed rain barrel system. The mesh bag is larger than I expected, but flexible enough that I could collapse it enough to stuff it through the existing two-inch hole on top of the barrel. The ring at the top of the bag rests pretty nicely at the hole opening. And then the hose end tucks right into the filter opening. The one-micron mesh is filtering virtually all visible solid matter out of the rainwater that's coming off roof shingles and into my leafy, silty gutter and downspout. The resulting water is crystal clear and great for watering garden and house plants.

Still deciding exactly how to integrate these to my system, but I'm impressed overall with the filter bag and the medium. I don't have a micrometer to test the 1 micron claim, but it does seem to catch a lot of random contaminants and dust. They're shipped in a sterile seeming bag which is also nice. Measurements are true-to-size so you can trust that. Happy overall with these.

Photos show U.S. Dollar Bill for sizing comparison. I got this in order to experiment with the home build of a highly cost-effective and robust water filtration device for emergency use. I envision putting this very thick walled polypropylene filtration tube inside a piece of PVC pipe that has activated charcoal in a space below this bag as an additional filtration media/process step. I have no doubts the device I’ve just described would significantly reduce water contaminants before any final water safety treatments (such as boiling or chlorination). As with all matters of personal health and safety, do your own homework and conduct your own tests to validate the efficacy of your preparations.Thanks for checking my comments and photos – I hope they encourage you to continue in your personal preparations and readiness for emergency conditions.

I use this as an extra layer of protection to filter the air that comes into my freeze dryer when I release the vacuum.Seems to do as intended, and there is plenty of 1 micron fabric to get many years of use before needing replaced

This filter catches just about everything you put through it.....just slowly. If you have a high GPH system, this filter would not be recommended as it limits flow through rate pretty severely. If slower filtration is fine, then you can't go wrong as it can even pull pollen and algae from a pool. I 3D printed an adapter to get this into my pool filter setup and it was able to handle a Florida algae bloom no problem. Cleaning the filter out is a bit on the tedious side.

This 1 Micron Filter Bag made of Polypropylene and measuring 4.5" x 20 does what it is supposed to do. The open mouth allows for easy access to place in pure liquids at the top, allowing drainage through the bottom.The only complaint is that it takes quite some time for the liquid to filter through, and come out the other side. Otherwise, this is a great item to have on hand in case water supplies are not reliable.
