This vacuum chuck is CNC machined from solid aluminum and is great for finishing the bottom of your turned wood bowls and other vessels.
- Thread the vacuum chuck onto the lathe spindle
- Cover the open end of the chuck with the self adhesive rubber gasket included with the chuck.
- Using a 3/8" ID plastic tube, connect a good vacuum supply to the 3/8" OD tube that passes through the headstock from the chuck.
- Position your turning on the chuck and turn on the vacuum.
- Smile because you now have a great way to finish your turnings!

The chuck works well but using it to sand or straightening vase bottoms is tricky as it is hard to get them centered and keep suction. I thought the manifold may have been letting air escape after a vase lost suction and flew off while i was sanding the bottom but after I used a ceramic plate to test the chuck I found it was User error and not the chuck.. I'm sure after using this product several times anyone would be able to get past the 'newbie' mistakes and get it working like it should. I bought the vaccum and manifold kit that was advertised along with it and I am happy with my purchase. I will say this about a vaccum chuck - be prepared for a real learning curve 😉

This chuck works perfectly. I have a vacuum pump for evacuating a/c systems that is only 3cfm and it holds just fine. I have used it for a 14" dia bowl turning so far.
