Got these to hang up in my classroom. So far, they have lasted at least half the school year! They were a little difficult to put together because they are pretty flimsy. However, I only busted the structural piece on one and a little tape kept it together.

As usual, ordering something to use not as intended. Given new home having deep eaves and made of wood, carpenter bees and other wood boring insects are moving in followed by a paper wasps nest which erected itself within a week the other summer, I found deterrents when researching online. See my photo of the monstrous nest.Wasps and other nest-creating insects can be fooled by hanging something which appears to be a nest - they don’t move in next to an existing nest. The article cited using a balled up plain paper bag and hanging it from home exterior, OR use these paper lanterns. Last summer I was only able to find colorful lanterns in the stores but settled on blue. It seemed to work having a blue house, and even observed one bee type thing flying up to inspect it then went on its way.To be ahead of the game I found these burlap printed ones - they look natural looking in terms of color (like a paper bag or nest) so grabbed these up. It is a generous 20 pack each individually packaged. There are instructions which include the note that these can be used with hanging lights (lantern - duh) and shows how to do that. Personally I would be reluctant to do so unless using small LED lights (so no heat is generated to scorch the paper). The color is a printed image of burlap, and the lantern is the same construct and assembly as any other paper lantern. These lanterns are fragile being paper thin, so use care particularly when exerting pressure to stretch them out and insert the metal brackets which keep them erected. These can be reused (carefully folding down in reverse order as erected) and stowed away flat for the next event (or wasp deterring season). Given there are many sizes of these, based on prior purchase which had 3 sizes, I’d call this a medium - smaller than a bowling ball.Being windy today, I won’t hang these out just yet, but so glad I have enough on hand for sufficient coverage around the exterior. Like last season, I will also spray essential peppermint oil on the lanterns which is another way to discourage insects.

During the summer, wasps build nests in the eaves of our house. We hung these at every corner and never saw a single wasp this year! Apparently, they are fooled into thinking these are a giant nest made by a large competing colony and go somewhere else. I love not having to kill pollinators!

These are what I expected- small burlap colored paper lanterns - they are great! I’ve got rattan pendant lights going up in my basement and these are such a cute compliment to those! I’m very happy with them!Set up could not be easier - the little inserts fit perfectly and hold them open until you physically popThem out!Well made and good value!
