I can honestly say that they look just like a name-brand demineralization cartridge. And there are a lot of them that come in this package. When I received them there were no instructions or description included that show how to use them or how they work.I previously used a cartridge that looked identical to this one that came with my HoMedics humidifier, however that cartridge sank to the bottom of the water immediately upon first use. This cartridge floated on top of the water for weeks before it finally sank to the bottom of the humidifier's tank. Is this a sign of needing replacing or it's ability to filter? I have no idea as I cannot find any information on this.I do not see a fine white dust around the humidifier, so I'm assuming this cartridge does at least a moderate job of doing what it says that it will, however I do not have much to compare to or information to base this on. I would say that results would vary depending on your water source and if you do indeed have "hard water" at your location.

We operate several humidifiers around our house; this is important in a Northeast Ohio winter in a house heated by hot water radiators. Until recently, I only had two humidifiers and those units incorporated a large demineralization cartridge that costs about $20 and needs to be changed at least once a heating system. (The photo shows one of those cartridges next to a MImrHEPA cartridge.) The design of those humidifiers forces water to pass through the filter before reaching the ultrasound transducer but, even so, we see a bit of white powder around each humidifier from minerals in the water. I was concerned about buying additional, less expensive humidifiers because the ones I found did not have their own demineralization system and instead instructed users in hard water areas to use distilled water. With each humidifier going through almost a gallon of water a day, this would quickly get tedious and expensive. Fortunately, I discovered these MImrHEPA (and similar) cartridges and they address the problem. I don’t expect them to do a perfect job, particularly since they are so small and only float in the water and that is why I am tentatively giving them only 4 stars in this review. If I am wrong and they perform much better or worse than expected over the next few months, I will update this review.PS – The attached photo shows two, possibly identical small cartridges. One is from MImrHEPA; the other is from a package I purchased from another supplier about a month ago. That package cost $1 more and, since they are indistinguishable to my eye, I don’t see any reason not to purchase the MImrHEPA cartridges instead.
