I got these, mostly to hand papers in sheet protectors from my cubical wall at work. They work great for this application. For this I am using the smallest rings, they are plenty strong, they do not open on their own.

These are a good gauge metal and can hold up to some more rigorous uses. I am currently using them to mount a flag to a pole, and we've had some pretty windy days. They've worked well so far. I like to use the larger rings to hold measuring cup and spoon sets together and they can also be used as curtain 'ties'. These are such useful and versatile items and it's nice to have a variety of sizes.
