So far I have used 1. And it locks and seals just fine. These are not your normal air tool sized fittings! These are for larger tools like my 1" impact gun. Some air grinders and sanders also use the 1/2" fitting size due to their air demand to use. So far these seem to fit the bill just fine.

Bought these to play around with a heavy air line that I have. They are completely overkill for my application and air compressor, but I had the couplers...A little teflon tape and they sealed well, no leaks at the threads or the coupler. I only tested the male threaded coupler, but I imagine the females are fine, too.
