Not too long, doesn’t horizontally stress the router shaft bearings, but allows short bits with bearings to extend further into the workpiece beyond a template.

I'm happy with it. Unfortunately the tools from the DeWalt router don't fit to this extension bit, so you need to have extra tools but that's not a big deal.
