I bought this bazooka tube because I was too cheap to buy a false bottom for 4x the money and I don't regret it at all. I'd been using the local homebrew shop owner's mash tun and wanted to build my own so I wouldn't have to keep using his. After hearing that it cost him about $120 to build his, I started looking for ways to save money. I built this mash tun for $58, you can't beat that. The LHBS owner and I brewed the same beer side by side, me using my mash tun with the bazooka tube while he used his with a false bottom, and we got about the same efficiency. I've brewed 3 times with this mash tun now and the bazooka tube works great. One thing I might do is put a hop sock over it to filter out smaller grain particles that get through the screen, but it's not necessary. Overall I'm happy with my purchase.

I had used a homemade cpvc strainer for a few years trying to avoid buying this. Not really sure why? But anyways, this is far superior to my homemade rig. Easy to clean, did a fantastic job catching the debris and still allowing the wort to flow. Dont hesistate if you are looking for a bazooka tube type sock

Nice strainer. Works great with very little trub making it through. Strains pelletized hops out well. No need to whirlpool your wort. Make sure to measure your pot before you order. I have my 12" in a 40 quart/ 10 gallon pot and it just fits. Take into account the mounting hardware may make it longer than anticipated. A little tricky to clean if fine grain particles get in but I am just being particular. I was worried about my immersion chiller crushing the screen but as long as you are careful it is fine.

On the merits this is a good product. It's sturdy and with proper care will last for years.I wanted to use this to filter my post-boil wort. It, well, doesn't do THAT great of a job in this application. There's a fine line with the mesh...if it is too fine then your flow rate stinks, but if it is too loose you might as well not have it. The mesh here is a decent size and did catch the hobs/trub/whatever that was in the wort. But it did it a little too well, because I got good flow for about thirty seconds before it stopped. I needed to sanitize a long handled spoon and scrape the bazooka clean to keep the flow rate up.It's a good idea and I figured I'd give this a try over my old method of whirlpooling. It didn't work quite as well as I had hoped, but it still worked well enough. Probably best to keep this for all grain batches (in lieu of a false bottom) instead of relying on it to filter post-boil wort.

It works as advertized. I'm happy with this purchase. It does a decent job filtering out trub and loose hops from my wort. I found that, during the wort transfer, the screen gets clogged and the flow can slow to a trickle, but eventually channeling opens up a path and the flow picks back up. I was worried the first time that this would be a problem, but now I'm used to the process and know what to expect.I've also purchased directly from Home Brew Stuff and they have some great brewing equipment. I wouldn't have found this screen if I hadn't gone to Amazon.

Previously I used a 10 gallon Igloo cooler with a false bottom for my mash tun. It worked great, but I wanted to be able to do step mashes so I converted my 15 gallon brew kettle to a combination brew kettle/mash tun. I purchased two of the bazooka screens and some addition fittings to make a U shaped filter. My first batch contained twenty pounds of grain and 10 gallons of water in the mash and the Bazooka screens worked great under all of that weight. As this batch was a wheat beer I had a great deal of extra break material from the wheat malt and I recommend an additional filter of some sort during the transfer of wort to your brew kettle, but even with the tendency for stuck sparges with wheat I didn't encounter any issues with the Bazooka screens. I then used the same set up to boil the wort and the Bazooka screens were again superb at filtering the whole hops I used during the boil. This is a great product at a very good price.

I never actually got to use this. I bought it for an all grain project and tried to put it in my 5 gal igloo, but it was too long so had to bend and contort it to make it fit. Then I gave up and decided to go for a bigger igloo with a false bottom. I prefer this set up. As far as how it holds up, there is some speculation that this may collapse. I can pretty much guarantee that won't happen. it is very rigid. It will hold up to a solid grain bed and should work pretty well. I can't speak to efficiency though since I moved on before ever testing it.

I purchased this to use in my 10 gallon rubbermaid cooler mash tun, and it works great! I've used it to brew 4-5 times now, and it is incredible easy to use. I purchased it because I was not yet ready to lay down the cash for a false bottom, but now I don't know if I'll ever switch. It is also very easy to clean. I just run water through the inside, then let it dry. When dried I just shake off the excess grain, and wait till the next brew. Very solid purchase.
