The lens unit is well made with good finish. It measures 1-1/4" but my particular telescope seems to be a tighter tolerance and it wouldn't fit into the adapter. I may have to see if my telescopes adapter has some rough spots on it which are making not wanting to fit.

Use with caution, Barlows do degrade the view. But sometimes you just want a closer view. I chose the 3x as I didn't have one. I know the limitations of using barlows the same as using tele extenders on slr lenses. They do degrade the view. This is a decent basic one. I have no way of telling you if it's as good as the much more expensive brand names as I have never used them. For me just using it too look at last nights Blood Moon with my 5" Celestron telescope. I don't know about looking at deep space items with this. Still needed a moon filter since the moon was so bright.
