This mat is a very usable, very necessary piece of equipment for a glass cutter and a stained glass artisan. It collects the little shards of glass as you cut, allowing those shards to safely be collected below the mat. The unit can then be opened and cleaned out when over a suitable disposal area. Our issue is it did not come with an extra grid as described on the sales page. The grid that is with it seems stout enough and functions well when glass is being cut on it that we do not believe we will need a replacement in the near future. Still, I am skeptical of vendors and suppliers that advertise one thing only for you to receive something else. The grid piece itself seems well manufactured. The bottom tray, not so much. It's obvious that the base was cut from a sheet of acrylic, the logo is still present on the bottom. Doesn't speak quality.Overall it is a functional mat, utilitarian in presentation. It is not fancy. Will it work in-studio? Yes, it does. But we won't be showing the piece off.

I make very small stained glass projects like window sun catchers and plant stakes. I really like this little glass cutting grid. The grid pops out of the tray for easier cleaning too or for emptying the tiny shards a bit easier. Functions as I anticipated it would. Even though I make small projects, a larger size would be nice because I have some bigger sheets of glass to cut down for my small projects. I’ll use this small grid for refining. Seems sturdy, good build quality. White is a good color to see the glass shards best.

I'm new to stained glass art and was looking for something to catch the little pieces of glass during cutting. This does the job!Since I'm new to the hobby I don't have much to compare it to, but it serves its purpose well and is exactly as described in the listing. All of the little glass shards and pieces that would have ended up on the floor (and inevitably being stepped on) are caught in a little waffle dips. If you're looking for something simple that gets the job done, I definitely recommend this

This is a great cutting board. I was having a really hard time with all the extra little pieces of glass and having to gather them at the end of the day, this cut that time down so much it is incredible. I really like that it also contains any loose pieces that I haven’t utilized. I normally end up just leaving them there. Being able to store it without finishing my project has also made it invaluable to me. It’s made out of acrylic and has held up so well for the time I’ve had it. I’m very pleased with its quality.

When this cutting mat arrived, I was curious to see how it would hold up to the kind of work my sister and I do in the shop. We’ve been making stained glass pieces for a long time now, and having a reliable surface to cut on is important—especially when you’re dealing with precise lines and delicate curves. The size is just right for most of our patterns. It’s 12 by 12 inches, which gives enough room to work without taking up too much space on the workbench. That’s something I appreciate, especially when the table is already crowded with glass, tools, and patterns. The mat itself has a smooth acrylic surface, and it feels sturdy, not flimsy or too lightweight. It stays put while I’m scoring glass, and I haven’t had any issues with slipping. One side has guidelines printed on it, and while I don’t always need them, they do help with squaring things off or double-checking measurements. I’ve used it for cutting both straight edges and curves, and the surface hasn’t shown any signs of scratching or dulling from the cutter. It’s nice to have something like this that’s easy to clean off when the day’s done. Little glass bits and dust don’t stick, and I just wipe it down with a damp cloth before packing it away. I could see this coming in handy for other types of crafting too, but for our stained glass work, it’s been a handy addition and functional.Feels like it’ll last a while, and it fits right in with the rest of our setup.

It's okay, but it's not really useful as more than the 12x12" cutting tray with grid that it is. What do I mean by that? Well, this seems to be an item that was designed to replicate a brand name tool; however, this one does not have the ability to hook to other pieces to create a larger grid for cutting bigger pieces of glass. This tool is a grid which has little places along the edge that can hook to other grid pieces, so if you got 4 of these you could hook the grids together to have a 2x2' square of grids or a 1x4' strip of grid; however, the tray that catches the glass bits would be rendered useless if you attempted to hook the pieces together. The tray that holds the grid is a 1/8" thick piece of acrylic with a border made of the same white acrylic glued onto the edges. This is fine if you only need the 12x12" grid. The tray will collect your shards of glass and you can pull the grid out to dump out the crumbs of glass. It is possible for the edges to break apart from the base at some point because it is melted together, but I believe it seems very sturdy and will likely not break. The true functionality of the brand name tool like this is that it has tools that go with the grid that help to break your glass. This does not have a cutting tool which is compatible with the grid, nor does it have the little balls which help to place pressure on and break larger pieces of scored glass. You could use marbles maybe and it would make this a cost effective way to avoid paying for the brand name tool. As-is, this is lacking anything special and missing the mark on the real purpose of a grid for cutting stained glass. The price is very similar to the original, but there are no accessories to go along with the grid. Scoring and cutting glass on the grid is not really functional. It does a great job of catching chipping pieces, but that's about it, unfortunately.
