I got this kit for the different size blocks. I am especially interested in the square blocks. I have started in on one of the square blocks. Most of the cuts were very easy. There are a few places in the wood that are more resilient to being carved. Nothing a sharp knife cannot handle. I have had the wood splinter off in the direction of the grain in a few places. I try to make shallower cuts to avoid a large chunk coming out where it will affect the piece negatively. It does feel sturdy so I plan to try a few floating carvings with some of the pieces.

I'm new to wood carving and whittling, so these blocks are perfect for me since they come in a variety of different sizes. My knives cut through the wood easily; the blocks are made from basswood, which is a more softer wood than most - which makes using these for crafts a breeze. So far I've made a few small animal figurines with the longer pieces, however you can definitely use these blocks for other kinds of projects other than carving, too! For the price you pay, you get a good amount of blocks, definitely recommend.

I got these for carving and whittling. I’ve heard basswood is a good option for beginners and experienced crafters alike. Despite it being a “hardwood”, it’s on the softer side. It has fine, even grain that holds details well, and has a uniform color throughout (making it a great option for painting or staining later).This set includes three different sizes and is a pretty good value. Very happy with this find!

Nice set of bass wood blocks. The wood seems fairly consistent between the blocks. I’m happy to have these.

Great quality, the size is good. No need for sanding, they are pretty much smooth. You may need to a little light sanding. But if you carve it, then of course you will need to sand it after your done.
