The first one I received had an extremely large crack in the wooden base which was visible from the top, showing as a 1/8th inch gap. I returned it and received a replacement, but the second one also had a crack in the base. Since it wasn't as noticeable I am keeping this one, but this is poor quality assurance from the factory. It's too bad, because otherwise this is a very nice pincushion, just what I wanted.
