I've had one for years, and bought two more for the turning project at the center for the blind where I volunteer for their woodturning project, because they are so easy for a beginner to use.

This is a pretty cool item! Though it's billed as being a cross between a skew and a gouge, I don't feel that it handles the "skew part" as well as I wanted it to, but it made nice cuts, not aggressive, no catches. It feels very similar to a Spindlemaster in the way it cuts and in the technique required to use it. It may not be the answer to everything, but I'm glad that I bought it.

I'm a bit of an impulse buyer, but this time the purchase worked out well. The skewchigouge turned out to be a great lathe tool I use it almost daily. It works like its ad says and I am very glad I bought it. I would and do recommendit to anyone.

I currently have all three different Sorby Skewmasters and really like them soooo I thought I'd try the Crown Skewchigouge... So far, not that impressed! It's very similar to the Sorby product but has a shorter sharpening area behind the tip plus it's slightly convex which makes it more difficult to sharpen by hand. I'll practice a little more with it before I turn it into another tool...

Thought I'd try this for turning small items, boxes and other things, on my Jet 1014 Midi Lathe because I read that its supposed to be almost "catch proof" and is more versatile. It's not, catch proof that is. Its kinda hard to get the hang of turning with it and it doesn't really act like a Skew or a Gouge. The one thing I do like about it is that it stays fairly sharp for awhile and doesn't need to be touched up as often as my other chisels. It would probably be easier for somebody to get the hang of using this if they already have a lot of experience in turning. I wouldn't recommend it for somebody that's new to turning or doesn't have that much experience at it.
