The first thing to know about this item is that although it appears to be pitched mostly at dogs, horses like these things too. Yes horses are mentioned in passing in the listing, but don't let the dog centric listing put you off.The cover is both a potential feature and a flaw. Since it does not contain a zipper or any other Eriod metal, it should be just fine for all the animals. Cover includes small nylon strapping which can act as a gripping point for an animal, Thus providing more activity than just nudging or kicking the ball around. The cover is also a fairly heavyweight Canvas, which should help protect the ball inside from punctures, or sharp teeth. (Note an underinflated ball, particularly without the cover, might be punctured fairly easily by a strong bite. )Although the unit comes with it included foot pump, the listing does suggest it will take fifteen to twenty minutes of stomping on the foot pump to blow the ball up and says explicitly "If you have an air compressor it would be better." :-DFinally it should be noted that horses at least do not perceive yellow the way we do. It is believe that they see it as either gray or a white color. It might be a good idea to use a heavy marker to add stripes or geometric shapes or some other thing in black to make it a little more visible, especially against light colored arena footing material.

Out of the box there were several spots of the ball that looked "off" - see photos. Hoped it was just cosmetic, but apparently not.Ball is a nice size. You have to inflate it inside of the cover which was challenging as it is smaller than the ball and limited its full inflation. You will need a pump. The hand pump included is useless. Thought it seemed like a strong cover. Lots of handles which was nice, but they are not attached well and all came off in under 10 minutes of play. Still picking them up around the pasture. See photo.Within 30 minutes ball seemed soft. Put it up for the night. Went to get it to put out the next day and it was flat. Checked plug which was secure. Reinflated just to have it go flat again. Big waste of money.Very disappointed. Sad for the "kids" who really enjoyed it for the few minutes it lasted. Would not recommend.

PROS: inner ball is sturdy and matches the described size; outer sleeve has numerous strap attachments, these are great for using the ball to train herding dogs; quality materials and constructionCONS: comes with a foot pump but takes forever to fill with that pump, an air compressor is needed to fill it quickly; outer sleeve doesn't zip closed, it's mainly just the diameter of the filled ball that keeps it in place and a friskier dog can pull it off if they try
